I've been following this forum for quite a while wondering when to jump aboard the OpusFSX train, but it's a bit like a fairground carousel that keeps going round and round, never quite stopping, with the galloping horses looking better and better and going faster and faster every time they come round !
Will it ever stop long enough for me to hitch a ride, do you think ?

Hi Dick

Now would be a good time to start because there is a level of compatability between the release 2.12.3 version and the new 2.20.0 beta. The beta having the greatly improved weather engine with its extended weather region and the new WINTER Weather INTERpolation procedures. Even though it is the first beta release many people are reporting good things. So step on board and strap yourself in very tightly.

Regards
Stephen

Well - at the moment my primary interest is in the DHM function (Accufeel doesn't quite do it for me and EZCA scares me silly). I don't need the TIR interface, I don't need LiveCamera, and I don't need the weather engine (yet !). I thought I read there was still some work in progress on DHM, but then the horses have probably galloped around quite a few times since then !

Hi Dick

The DHM effects have just been improved but they are attached to camera views so you will need Live Camera if you want to see the effects. As for the Live Weather Engine, well I think you should try it and I think you will be pleasantly surprised, it is like no other you have seen, real detailed, localised and varied weather that does not appear and disappear (unless the METAR reports say it should of course, true winds aloft to be added soon).

We will have you flying around storms you see 40 miles ahead very soon, or like others seeking out the storms so that you can deliberately fly through them.

The Live Weather Engine is also needed if you want to experience the intelligent and ultra-realistic turbulence effects. It's the LWE that knows the current meteorological conditions and determines the frequency and strength of the low and high-frequency turbulence effects. If you are looking for that next level of realism then you will need all the features except Live View and TrackIR.

Stephen

I may have been confusing LiveCamera and LiveView (some of these horses look very similar !)
I have been following the progress and feedback on LWE and have absolutely no doubt that I will get into that too in due course. One step at a time.

Given my current focus, what version/level would you recommend I instal ?

You should concentrate on getting the release version 2.12.3 installed and up and running, then check out the latest activity on the beta, but the only difference between the release and beta is the new upgraded LWE, the rest is the same. I should think the beta will become the current release in a few weeks time after it has been put through its paces and had its normal course of development tweaks and additions. If you like stability then best give it a few weeks and then upgrade your 2.12.3 with the 2.2 release.

I do like stability - I've had quite enough excitement with FSX !

Thanks Stephen.
