    Posted: September-11-2018 at 10:21am
I have a Jetline PC delivered in Dec 2017 with P3D4.2 installed.  I became very frustrated with P3D concerning failure to be able to install a number of addon programs.  The final straw was not being able to use Radar Contact.  I uninstalled P3D and installed FSXSE.  I have been been pleased with it as it has taken every program I have wanted to install including UTX USA v2.  Last week, I had Steam do what appears to have been a huge update which has caused me to have to reinstall a number of addons.  I ran the Steam file checker and it restored a large number of files.

I have done two Revo uninstalls of my UTX program.  FSX has never been installed on this PC. Steam  was downloaded.  Have used right click downloads and installs.  Both times I have gotten a notice telling me Scenery.CFG could not be located in C:\Users\mbnic\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-Scenery CFG; however, check shows it is there.  Although UT initially installs into a C drive Flight One Software folder, the final installation is in D/Steamapps
Common/ FSX/Flight One Software/UtUsafsx.  After opening my FSXSE Scenery Library, UT files are there.  After reading your topic with wbentel, Sep2016, Installation Issues, I have been totally confused.  I'm hoping there is an easier fix for this.  Appreciate the help, Mike Nicholson

Need to start to try and work out what may/may not be happening by whether you can confirm that your Steam installs are done not to the default location (which would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam) but to somewhere you manually told the Steam installer to put them e.g. D:\Steam?

Next, if you start FSX-SE and look in its Scenery Library, if it shows UTX scenery layers, then it means that the entries have been written into the Scenery.cfg file which the sim is using i.e. as long as the actual folders these Scenery Library entries point to exist, then things should be OK.

While you say you ran the download and installers by right-clicking on them and selecting "Run as adminsitrator" are you also doing that when you run the UTX USA Setup Tool?

It should also be noted that the real Scenery.cfg file used by the sim is actually under "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX" and not under AppData.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I was able to take care of it.  We can close this Topic out.  Thank you, Mike

This topic is very much still open for me, so would appreciate help. Reinstalled UTX-USA v2.3 (as administrator) for 2nd time after changing from FSX Gold to FSX SE. I receive a critical error when running the Setup Tool (as an administrator). It reads "The SCEBERY.CFG or other simulator file(s) could not be located at the expected location below:

C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\SCENERY.CFG

As you said, this is not the correct location for the SCENERY.CFG, but I did not tell UTX to look in the location above and there is no SCENERY.CFG file in that location. When I load FSX-SE and look in the scenery library, UTX scenery files are not there. When I look in the scenery.cfg file in the Program data . . . . location, there are not UTX entries there either. Just says "Default Terrain . . .".

How can I resolve this?

Just to add to my post above, I guess I need to somehow tell the setup tool to look in a different location for the scenery.cfg file, but I don't know how to do that.

Brian,

One way for you to find the scenery.cfg file is to open up your PC file.  Then enter scenery.cfg into the search box in the upper right corner and click on the little search light.  This will search your your whole computer, and you will get a list of files displayed.  search.cfg will be in the list.  Right click and select file location.  This will bring up the file. The path to it will be set forth at the top.  Mike Nicholson

Thanks for the response Mike. I have 2 Scenery.cfg files. One in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX and the other in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX-SE. Neither have UTX terrain references. UTX is looking for a scenery.cfg file in a location that does not even exist. The closes location to the above in my original post in FSX-SE, but there is no scenery.cfg in that location.

I did have FSX Gold as I said and also UTX v1.0. I had completely uninstalled both and did cc cleaner to make sure all items were gone

Brian,  Just a few comments. 1st.  The Flight 1 guys usually give very good advice. 2nd, I would purchase Revo Pro Uninstaller.  They use the vendor's uninstaller first, but then they go after everything that is related to the program you are trying to get rid of, including the Registry.  CC Cleaner is no comparrison.  3rd.  Uninstall it with Revo Pro and reinstall a fresh Flt 1 download.  Turn off your firewall and antivirus for the download and installation. 4th and I'm assuming you have a decently large computer, uninstall all old FSX & Steam.  Install Prepar3d, v4.4 Pro.  P3d finally has it running pretty darn good and only use their partner or approved add ons.  If you want scenery files, then get Flt1's GEP3D and their UTX USA.  They install themselves (they don't want us to screw them up) and it looks great.  P3D is the future.  With FSX and Steam you just keep running out of memory.  If you need a new computer, get it.  You just won't believe how flawless P3D works now.  Good Luck, Mike  PS:  If you are interested in a new computer, take a look at Jetline Systems.

Thanks for your response and the recommendations. You must be reading mind. I have decided to move to P3D. I have a high end 64 bit machine and want to fully leverage it. Thanks again. Brian

As noted in this older thread in this forum, unfortunately when you uninstall a boxed version of FSX e.g. FSX Gold, it does not properly remove all the registry entries associated with it. This causes issues when you then install FSX-SE and try to install add-ons like UTX v2.x which are aware of multiple flightsim platforms.

If you follow through the conversation in that thread you will see some information on how you may be able to edit the registry to fix things.

Jeff

Thanks for this Jeff, but I did move to P3D V4 and won’t look back. All works great including those add and one. I did use Revo to uninstall FSX and the UT add one. Reinstall went beautifully. Chase plane just switched over all by itself. Very happy!

Thanks again. Brian
