I presume that this will be the AlphaSim Islander that will be sold on Flight 1.

The AlphaSim website states "The BN-2 Islander project is proceeding well now after several months in the doldrums due to internal problems. The exterior models and textures are completed, we are working flat out now on the VC, aiming for a January release."

Can anyone shed any light on this thanks. I have been waiting over 12 monts for this bird.

Thanks.

Yep, that is right. We are making good progress now. January release may be slightly optimistic as it is now February, but I know Phil was pushing hard for that. I have just seen the VC and it looks stunning. Gauges are done, so hopefully will see those in place soon. Hopefully, we are only weeks away now.

Dave,

Great news on the BN, by chance can you comment on the release of ver 1.1 for the C-17? The update was promised for mid JAN-FEB 2010. Was disappointed to see news of the BN, but nothing on the longer awaited C-17.

Matt

I am not involved in that one, so can't offer any answers.
Sorry.

Thanks for the update on the BN. Are you planning to show screenies of the VC on this forum when they are available?

Certainly will. We are just waiting for Alphasim to send the beta with the gauges in position and also to tweak the internal textures a touch. As soon as I have the latest Beta, I will post some grabs here.

Anyone got any news or VC screenies about this bird? AlphaSim website news of May 10th states that it will be uploaded to Flight 1 within days. Just getting impatient, that's all.

May 10th was hopeful last year. Watch this space. Just got the latest release candidate and will try and grab some shots of the finished VC in the next day or so. We gave a sneak preview of at the Munich show and I have the new update with most comments sorted. Still a couple of minor issues, but very close now. Expect a release in a week or two.

Good looking new aircraft!! I'll be certainly watching its progress now.
I love finding a new aircraft when it is getting fairly close to completion.

Dave

Any chance of a screenie of the VC from the latest release canditate to keep the hungry hordes at bay?

Waiting for this release is like watching the grass grow, but as the saying goes, all good things come to those who wait.

Thanks.

This aircraft looks about the size of the BAe JS4100 that was released, or maybe a little smaller.
How many passengers does this carry?

Mate, don't hold your breath. This bird was supposed to be "coming soon" over 2 years ago and Alpha Sim stated 3 weeks ago that it would be delivered within "days". They won't even post screenies of the VC on this forum after several requests. I know Alpha Sim are in financial trouble so you would think that they would keep their potential customers updated now and then.

I don't mean to have a rant but a little information now and then goes a long way. I have given up and am now going to purchase the Real Air Duke instead.

Apologies, like a number 6 bus, things have been extremely hectic with several releases all coming together at the same time, and I am trying to keep all the balls in the air. Enough cliches. Check back this afternoon and I'll have grabbed a few shots for you. It is on it's very last testing before release (I hope).

Screengrabs were on my to-do list, but problems on releasing the boxed version of the Dodosim 206 got in the way. An 80 page printed manual for the 206 takes a lot of time.

The Islander is almost ready for release and just trying to get the last few details right. Beta testers are a hard bunch to please on this one ;-)

Many thanks for the screenies Dave. Sorry for a minor dummy spit but I think the long wait will be worth it. Those VC shots are truly superb. Looks like the Duke will have to go on the backburner.......

This does look awesome. Now I can't wait for the release.
This plane looks more the size of a KingAir than a J41.
It looks like it holds maybe a dozen passengers.

Is there any chance for Reality XP Intergration in the VC? They have just updated the Nav Data so I think more people would want it in there, thanks.

KLN90A unit fitted. You can check out the manual at bendixking.com and search KLN90A under ‘System’ and it pops up with a list of various documents and most of their range of old GPS units. It doesn't work in the way modern Garmin units do, so be prepared fro some behaviour which needs some reading of the manual!.

No Reality XP Im afraid, though from memory of their units, you can always add that as a 2D popup?

You can add RealityXP' Garmin, but sometimes I find that if the aircraft already has a fairly complex GPS, it will not work very well.
I like RealityXP, but for these older aircraft, I would rather learn to use what they were using. It's part of the fun.

Ok, but if its a KLN it will have the features of Default GPS but it will look differnt right? There are so many things u cannot do with the Deafult GPS.....like add a flight plan, make another flight plan enroute, go direct to a waypoint on the FLight Plan ect....it just sucks, I hope there a way to add the 530 and use it...man they updated the NAV DATA and it soooo much better now. I wouldn't be suprised if most re-world operators have more modern GPS's in there cockpits. It would increase operational capabliltys in a lot of places.

That's true. In order to be fun, it has to be real.
I think it is in very poor taste for any payware addon to use the default GPS or any modification of it.
If I'm paying for an aircraft sim, I want to see some creative work put into the nav system.
From what Dave seems to be saying, this will be the case with this island hopper.
He said we will have to do some studying to understand the GPS system that is being used.
There is no studying required to use the (yuk) default GPS.
I sure don't mind learning a realistic system, even if it is an older system.

I have downloaded the manual for the KLN90B as I cannot find the manual for the A version. Are you aware if there is much difference between the 2 units. Many thanks.

The manual is available for the A. I have a copy that Phil sent me, but because of copyright issues, we cannot include it in the software. I will try and find the link to download it. This isn't the default GPS and is authentic to the real thing.

I have been waiting for this for so long. It's great to finally see it. Does anybody know which liveries will be included? I'm hoping for a F.I.G.A.S. (Falkland Islands Government Air Service) one!

The wait is almost over.

This one is a pretty good looking plane, but ugly is beautiful too. Look at the PBY Catalina and the Grumman Goose. Those are some of the prettiest ugly planes around.
Really the BAe JS4100 is no prome queen either, but I'll take her out anytime

LOL, that's one of the reasons why I never fly the Goose and didn't purchase the Catalina. Talking about the J41....Rick Piper is doing a much more beautiful version...the J31 (a very high quality freeware release!)

You can do all these things in the included KLN.  It works independent of the default GPS (though you can import flight plans from the GPS).

It comes with its own Navdata, and you can save and load stored flight plans.
