    Posted: June-24-2006 at 8:01am

Hello again;

Here are some examples to help show the different effects you can get in the same time and sitution using GE PRO. This first shot shows some of the sets I made earlier

This next shot here shows an example over Hawaii using the default scenery for FS9. This first shot below; shows a tropical sky in clear conditions. Note: the aircraft is bright as is the ground. The sky textures and ground textures here are both GE PRO in clear conditions and are both working with each other to cause this look. Ground is a little brighter and less blue and a touch more color and brightness. Note also we are using a softer horizon in these shots which you can adjust if you want to be a more defined harder look.

Next shot below, shows the same situation with some clouds. In this example we show the ground is a little more blue and a touch darker than the first shot. The shadows on the aircraft are also a little darker. Note also the sky in this example is a little more colourful which is due to the random element of how the GE PRO application makes and selects the sky. Again note we are using a softer horizon again.

Next shot below now shows an overcast condition. Note now the aircraft shadow and ground and clouds have all become darker and moody. In this example we are also showing a blue hue to the ground which is very typical in overcast conditions. Just for the record you may like to kow the water reflection set here was generated by Flight Environment to give a more grey look. We've also used FE for clouds.

In the next shot below we show how moody this overcast sitution can look with some care.

Now for some of the more clever advanced features of GE PRO. Let's say you want to try and get a really moody look and don't know how to. Don't worry. You simply go to the GE PRO weather control and use the weather finder to look for say a tunderstorm.

GE PRO will now automatically install matched ground and sky textures to help to give this look. When you go in game you go to the airport suggested.

In this example we use Weather-Maker FX by Reed Stough which is still currently in beta but produces some of the most amazing cloud scapes imaginable.

Here are a few shots of the interface to help you get an idea of how easy this program is to use.

Here is the first opening screen.

And now how to make sky manally. This can of course be done automatically for you too if you want. In this example we add some green hue to the horizon.

Below we show the kind of result adding some green to the horizon will produce. Note in this shot the green hue on the horizon and if you look it's very similar to the green in the colorize sky screen above.

Now for an example of how to make new grouind sets. In this example below we are aiming for a clear condtion making the ground a little more red and brighter also.

Here is how we think it's a good way to make a ground texture set to look more overcast by adding some extra blue.

Of course not eveyone wants to manually make ground sets so GE PRO can even make gound and sky sets for you in a fully automatic mode. Here is an example. Note the open box. All you do is type in how many of each type you want. You can always add more sets later.

The cost of this GE PRO program will be $49.95 but the good news is for existing GE Users they will get a $30 voucher which means they can upgrade from GE to GE PRO for just $19.95 extra cost.

Thanks for your support and interest.

Quit fooling around with all these screenshots and release this beauty!

In all seriousness, this appears to be another must-have and hopefully soon.  Thanks for the screenies.

I never ceases to amaze me the lengths to which people go to take a simple game and turn it into something much, much more than the original maker probably ever inteded it to be... and for that... I thank you.

Well... there is absolutely no doubt that I will have to get GE Pro. The shots are amazing!

Unfortunately, I will be out town starting tomorrow for a week on a mission trip. Gives me something to look forward to when I return.

You guys save me a copy!

Looks great Peter.  You've got another purchase out of me.

To what extent will GE Pro work with Active Sky?  Can you describe what features will not work?  I also assume from your previous comments that you will have a weather package that will integrate directly with FE and GE Pro.  Is that correct?  Will your package provide additional integration not available with Active Sky?

Hi Peter,

You are a genius. I like what I see. My version of GE will definately get an upgrade, when this package is released. Unfortunately our currency has taken a severe dip and things get rather expensive, but the $ 19.95 is definately worth investing.

To quote Tim: "Oh m... m.. mm... myyyy... my credit card is ready!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm looking forward to the release. Count me in!!

Hi Neil, yes, we are working on an integration of a weather engine for our pakages and the total solution wil have a lot of new ideas and features. We are going to keep some of those ideas secret for now but they will be ground breaking and unique. Always, when we bring out something new it has to be very unique and stand out as something useful and desirable as a new produt.

The weather-engine side of things is being done by Reed Stough of www.Weather-Maker.com and already the next vesion will have integration with FE. It is our intention that by FSX we will have a combined package as a collabration of team work which we hope to take the level of expectation to new heights and offer some real eye candy and new features that will set our package as a real leader in the market.

As far as active sky is concerned it should still work right now very well with what we have. The only things we do is really the grouind textures and clouds and water which ASV don't do. So probably to get the best from ASV working with GE Pro it's best to turn of the graphic features in ASV. Ceratainly if you use ASV purely as a weather engine there won't be any issues at all running with FE or GE or GE Pro.

Thanks for the quetions,

Thanks for the answers Peter.   I use FE and GE today for textures, with Active Sky only for weather generation, so if I understand your comments, that should be fine, but there may be some additional features with Weather Maker Pro that you'll announce later.   Is that essentially correct?

Well Guys, I have finally finished the setup package for Ground Environment Professional and it should be available from Wednesday barring any unforeseen circumstances.  Flight 1 has to put the wrapper on it and that should take around 2 days to finalise so you should be flying in your own custom environments by the weekend.  We hope you will be as excited about using this package as we have been developing it for you.

I'm totally amazed that you can come up with something we've gotta have, thet we didn't even know we needed!  I was flying out of Honolulu just yesterday in a DC3, avoiding jets, and while it looked beautiful with GE, FE, UT, AS6, etc, something wasn't quite right, and now I know what it was.

Thank you!

GE pro looks great! Thanks for the compare shots.

quick question (sorry if this has already been answered...i scanned through the other thread and didn't see it).

what happens when i fly out of a weather condition (say from stormy-overcast to a bright-sunny day). Will the ground textures update itself? Or remain in their original state (so for this example, stormy-overcast).

thanks

it's up to you the user how you use the program. One person will want to make amazing screens and that's probably more up your street.

What we do is use the metar engine section of the program to put the destination and arrival airport and any in btween way points. We run some variables in and caluculate (in program code) what the conditions are looking like and make an esitmate as to what will be the most appropiate texture set.

If for example the departure is very overcast the the arrival very sunny then you'll end up with a safer more average set of ground textures loaded.

If on the other hand, it's say winter, and evey waypoint is for strong overcast then you'll probably get overcast textures loaded.

If you decide to do circuits and remain in the loacal area again you'll get a more dramactic look if conditions call for it.

On the other hand if you're in say Mexico and it's clear skies reporting at all waypoints you'll get brigher sunny looking textures

So really, that's the whole point of the metar section. It does the hard work for you and helps you to make an intelligent informed decision or let the program load the textures for you.

On the other hand some people may just want to make the textures look brighter and leave it at that and never ever adjust them once they have got the settings and look they like.

It's really all about giving you the user the control to manipulate the game beyond it's original specs and to get things looking more realistic where possible.

Some degree of common sense must also be applied. If you are doing a very long haul flight over lots of latitudes and seasons then it's best to opt for a more moderate set. Perhaps in the summer go for a moslty clear look with a bit more color. If it's a British winter then perhaps go for a slightly darker set.

It's all about giving you more choice.

As a screen shot taker and artist, which I know you are, you should get some really exciting looks from this kind of program and knowing you, you'll progbaly force the levels to do some amazing things and with some artistic abilty make some most amazing shots ever.

Thanks for the question.

thanks for answering my questions Peter.

Been trying out the beta...WOW! It completely changes the way fs9 looks...for the much much better. :)

You guys are definitely thinking outside the box, and it's great to see your products pushing the limits of fs9.

thank you!

Looking forward to taking more screenshots....

Thanks Allen,

I've been enjoying UT both the USA and EUROPE and we've made sure we give the users an option adjust your UT specific textures to match our look for those users who have UT intalled so it matches and looks great with UT.

If I use AS6 for cloud textures etc... Can GE pro still darken the ground etc with out me setting it, if its overcasted etc? I like to keep it as real as possible when I fly so I use real weather with AS6.

Fengz asked more or less the same question.

It's answered about three posts up on this thread.

There is a lot too this program.

Anthony and I use it with real weather and that's really what it's all about and it should work with any 3rd party add-on weather engine.

Just like AS6 gets real weather information so does GE PRO. It will set it for you and as long as you apply some common sense you should get some very good results.

You don't have to use the metar engine. You can simply opt to manaully install or creat some brighter sunny looking textures and skies or darker as you wish.

Lots of options and ways to use this program.

Anthony and I download the metar information and let the program have all the info we can. We tell it where we are flying from and to and any waypoints we feel appropiate.

We've been getting very good results when flying in real weather with AS6, wmp4 Weather maker FX and FS9 real weather.

So in the end I do have to enter everything manually to get the ground to change colors etc..... I was asking if it doesn it automatically as the clouds change in ASG? One reason I am not using FE anymore is because the clouds never really changed according to the weather...

What you're asking is a PHYSICAL LIMITATION of the sim, not FE or GE. Ask MSFS developers.
FS loads the textures at first load, so all these menu option driven utilities sych us GE, FE and others MUST be operated BEFORE you run FS, so that the `new` textures can be installed. Once installed they cannot be changed for that sim session.

...Well, not easily.

Dumb question time and hope I don't have to ask at the AS6 forum -

How do I turn off graphics on AS6, I had a look and there are a LOT of options. If there is no simple answer I will take this to the proper forum, just hoping I overlooked a simple fix, and I happen to be here as a new GE pro user.

anyway ...

Thanks

There is a section in the AS6 whre you can turn of their graphics which I think is done by keeping the box unchecked in the graphics sction. I used to understand the older ASV interaction with FE and though I did try and talk to them on voice they never allowed me to get past an IRC chat window and I just fouind this too hard to explain my points. I wanted so hard to simply talk on the phone but this request was refused to me. A pity and I still have an open mind to try and get some sensible integration working with them.

Perhaps it needs people like you to inviate AS6 to phone me and work this out. I really would be happpy to work a sensible solution for easy interaction.

But for now just uncheck that graphics section and I think it should do it? Perhaps somebody who better understands how AS6 works could clarify this for us.

I need a better explanation of how it works... Do I have to input the metars and create the different texture sets? Or the progream can communicate with AS6 and with its metar info the GE pro can make the textures change? Also where is FE pro. I love FE, but the once a cloud set is set it never changes... I would like them to be more dynamic according to the metar info...

Alex

Alffs, you don't understand FS, not GE Pro.

Texture sets can ONLY be placed in the sim at time of loading, not subsequently. Therefore to create the best RANGE of textures most suitable for the environment you will be flying in that sim session you need to load the metar in GE Pro. From there, GE Pro will select appropriate textures. And those will be the ones installed for the whole of that session. No matter what the weather does later on.

Because of this fundamental limitation of FS (well not really `limitation`, just the way FS is designed) you may need to load the metars for start and destination points to enable GE Pro to calculate and install the best AVERAGE ground texture set to meet your needs.

AS6 cannot change textures that GE Pro places there, it's beyond its mien. It's a weather generator, and you'll know that with its sky and cloud options, these must ALSO be changed before the sim is run.

Ditto for FE.

You don't understand FS, not FE... but I hope this makes thngs clearer.

Well you dont need to tell me I dont undestand. I understand perfectly all I want it was a clear answer. IN ORDER FOR THE TEXTURE TO CHANGE THE METARS HAVE TO BE ENTERED. Now it seems I wont be using this feature... I dont have time to do all that. Still looks great....

Now do I have to create the textures or simply with the metars GE PRO knows....

You enter the metars GE pro picks the textures EITHER automatically or you can do it manually.  He answers it quite clearly a few posts up.

As Randy says, but if you don't have time to understand, we understand.

Stick with GE.

"If you wish to carry out a flight that is not just in the local vicinity you need to remove the check mark from the Circuits/Local Flight check box this will then allow you to select your destination details from the right side of the screen.

Once you have selected a destination and clicked on the 'Install' button, Ground Environment Professional will ask you if you wish to add any waypoints to your flight. Adding waypoints will not build you a flight plan for FS9. The waypoints are en-route airports where Ground Environment Professional can obtain weather information to make a more accurate choice of the Textures to install"

You'll never GUESS where I found that information... and there's more that follows, precisely and succinctly answering your questions!

Try reading the manual, it will save you - and us - hours.
