Hi,
I'm having problems with blurry ground textures in some areas after having installed Ultimate Terrain US (which otherwise is just wonderful! ). Look at the following image from Seattle:



I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE video card, which is a couple of years old.

The extended_textures should be enabled, default_radius and extended_radius values are what many have found to minimize blurries, and extended_levels can be either 3 or 4 depending on horsepower under the hood.  HTH

Geeeeeeeez, you guys are fast! Both of your suggestions have made considerable improvements. I'm going to save both of these to do further testing, but all in all UT USA has suddenly become a lot better. And, as Cole suggests, there is a difference between an F-16 and a Cessna Piper!! Howdy,

another way to save system resources - and thus keeping the highest (sharpest) texture mipmaps loaded - is to reduce max. visibility. While it does happen that one can see Vancouver's North Shore mountains from Seattle (as in your picture) it's pretty rare.

oh yeah and of course, though trivial, it should be mentioned that clouds and high AI traffic are a drain on resources too!
and:
autogen! I use Ruud Faber's FScene, which makes it possible to switch of the trees because his ground textures are so good (of course at very low altitudes, you don't have the 3D effect anymore, and you don't have buildings ... still ...)

1. I too had blurries with UT USA.

2. This was surprising, since I had been using USA Roads for over a year when the new product came out, and had my system tuned to mitigate blurries.

It took me a few days to figure out what was going on, but I actually believe the new blurries were a consequence of having installed USA Roads previously.

Flying VFR north of Los Angeles, I began to wonder whether I was seeing TOO MANY roads. (In general, I fly with the major roads only option -- all roads except residential.) The suspicion stayed with me, but I had no good way of checking it.

While going through my scenery library, looking for things that might conflict with UT, I noticed an item titled "Default FS2004 roads" or something like that. It was checked! I vaguely recalled that one or two people had reported finding this when moving from USA Roads to UT USA. See http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=12209 This would account for the extra roads I was seeing.

I unchecked the "Default FS2004 roads" item in the scenery library and restarted the sim to refresh the scenery library. When I got back, excess roads were gone, and my textures were sharp again too.

the file fs9.cfg could be found in this directory
C:\Documents And Settings\WINXP USER\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

But prior to going to this directory you must enable displaying hidden directories and files - f.e. in Total Commander - Configuration - Display - Show Hidden files\folders

It seems related to what is running. Today with a standard FS2004 plane all was detailed, but if a switched to a custom plane, I seen blurries for the first time.

Switching back to the standard plane, then all was well again.

yep, 3rd party planes - if modelled in detail - can also be gobbling up resources and hence have that effect

but i fly the PDMG 737NG with high settings in FS and i get little blurries. Everything is sharp

I did have this problem when i first purchased UT. I would be flying and gradually everything was blurred. I tried a few setting changes but with no avail.

Installing a different driver and re-installing FS9 eliminated this problem completely.

I have a very highend system and i find that the more complex the planes get the harder it is to get rid of the blurries. The latest release is the PMDG 747 and with this plane i have tried everything, but found that i just have to live with the blurries when flying this plane, but it would be great if i  could also enjoy UT and a 38m mesh at the same time.

the 747 also is flying fast - and the faster you go, the more blurries you will get

PMDG uses so much resource that it takes away RAMS from the sceneries.

Yes it really uses alot of resources, i find that when using the 747 i use more that 1.1 gigs of ram  that is alot, but its a plane i couldnt live without now, so hopefully the next version of FS will deal better with this blurry issue, im sure it will.

I had exactly the same problem (running a fast computer) and did some research.

My computer has a ATI 850XP card (very fast) and I found that if you go to the 3D part of the display properties for the card, select custom, then deselect the Application preference for both Anti Aliasing and Antroscopic filter it solves the problem completely.

The downside is that you get a few stutters when running FS9, as the reason the textures were so blurry in the first place was to allow the processor to concentrate on other things and give a smoother performance.

I was directed to this thread via a link from ultimate terrain.  I remembered changing some settings in my cfg file a while back after reading a similar topic and thought I would see how my settings compare.

I was puzzled to find the following.......
