    Posted: September-02-2012 at 12:21am
I just used it for the first time tonight. Have come up with some questions.

1- In the announcement thread I saw this:
OpusFSX Version 2.11.3 has now been released and is available for download on our website.
This release version introduces options to decrease or increase the level of turbulence experienced.

I have 2.12.1 Beta and I see no where to increases/decrease turbulence?

2- The Spy Window. Why does the METAR data that loads disappear from this Spy Window? I always see nothing after the initial load? does it just show the METARS at the refresh point and then it disappears? Makes me think the thing is not working when I open it up and nothing is there. I like the reassurance AS2012 gives on their status page with time stamps showing the last activity the program has done such as injecting wx into the sim, etc... Could you at least make it where it will show a time stamp of last METAR load into the sim perhaps?

3- The two buttons on the bottom right of the Spy Window, the hide/show data/detail buttons. When I click on these, nothing happens? What are they for?

4- Do you have your own weather server or are you getting the data from somewhere else? I tested this at SFO earlier today. The KSFO METAR was showing KSFO 020356Z 30012KT 10SM FEW007 13/10 A3000 RMK AO2 SLP159 T01280100 $. However I had high cirrus and that's it. Then after 10 minutes (my refresh setting) when it reloaded I had what looked like a fog bank rolling in over the bay with some of it over the field. Yet the METAR was not showing any of this?

5-How do you manually refresh from within the sim? Do I select Enable Live Weather or Load Weather Theme?

6- On the FSX free flight screen where you pick your aircraft, airport, time and date and weather, are you supposed to pick User Defined for the weather prior to starting the flight and LWE? If I dont, I see that after starting LWE it reverts to that setting of User Defined. Just wondering if I am supposed to select that first? With AS2012, that program does it for you but then again I start AS2012 before FSX.

Thanks Stephen

Eric

Please read the TrackIR5 Interface posts, this beta is ready for TrackIR users to try out, but you should be OK, just don't enable TrackIR just yet.

1.

You will find the options in the DHM dialog accessed via the Camera Control dialog. Basically you create a virtual cockpit view for your plane (follow the guide), set it as Default View, Enable DHM, open the DHM dialog via the DHM button, read the Warning, set all the options and if you like turbulence effects, tick the 'More Turbulence' option.

2.

Firstly, this is a Spy window, it starts from the moment you open it, it does not display messages prior to it being opened simply because it never received any, the dialog did not exist to receive them. You can scroll the Spy Window back up after it has displayed something, it might help if you pause the sim first.

My recommendation would be to look at the c:\OpusFSX\Themes\OpusWeather.txt file. This file contains a list of all the METARs it downloaded. This is the file you email to me if you want to report any anomalies (its in the LWE guide), make sure you tell me approximately where you were flying at the time. The weather map covers an area 300 by 300 miles! and soon will extend over 600 miles. The METAR time stamped report will be no problem.

3. They do what they do. The Detail button enables or disables the display of all further message 'details', the Data does the same for the comms 'data bytes' (only really relevent when Spying on comms links). Remember, I use these to check the comms and display test messages, trace messages etc. etc. If you have a standalone system with no CPFilght hardware then these options may seem irrelevent, but they are a godsend on other set ups. Basically, the Spy feature is used for all sorts of purposes in house and by users.

4. All METAR data is downloaded from the NOAA site.

5. Via the sim's Addon menu ...

Addon - OpusFSI Live Weather - Load Dynamic Weather

6. It is all done for you. We do give some recommendations, e.g. set your cloud draw distance to 70 or 80 miles, no need to set it any further, you are just waisting frame rates. Use Unlimited target fps that sort of thing. But they are only guide lines. You do want reasonable frame rates to get the full effect of the DHM though. Movies don't look to good when replayed on a projector running at 10 fps.

Hope that clarifies a few things.

Regards
Stephen
