Hi there.

I have switched to FSX STEAM a few years ago and experimented with photoscenery a bit.

Now I wanted to install GEX Atlantic_Pacific_Tropics (I bought that years and years ago....so thank you for still supporting/updating!!)

I bought all the GEX regions back then and now used the Flight1 Purchase Agent to re-download all of my regions (only North America seems to be expired/Legacy).
If I understand correctly, the new updated downloads from the Flight1 agent should automatically install correctly into STEAM as well.

Note:
I never got asked about a key or serial, but maybe this is normal if you install with the Flight1 Agent?

I am using:

Windows 7

UAC off
Windows defender off
Windows Fire Wall off
ESET NOD32 paused during install of GEX
Installed with right mouse click as admin
GEX interface run with right mouse click as admin

First I get the error shown below, then the interface backs up the origina ATP region and then it closes so I cant even deselect or select a region.

(Note that this is an error for a different region then the one I am trying to install!)

The only region I wanted to install (for now) in FSX STEAM was APT....but somehow the GEX interface checks for a licence of another region.

Note: I uninstalled GEX and reinstalled but same same. I also even tried installing Africa/Middle East I still get the same message and then the GEX interface closes.

Do I have to install all regions I purchased years ago?
In a certain install sequence maybe?
Or is GEX North America required for the other regions to work?

Never seen this issue before.

Can you go into the F1 Purchase tool and refresh the license.. LIBRARY tab should show you the GEX products..   click each one listed and then on the right click LICENSE MANAGER and then REFRESH LOCAL LICENSE

Do be sure to never delete or move the .lic files in the  C:\Flight One Software folder

I know the F1 Purchase tool has been updated over time. If the above suggestion nets the same result I will need to uninstall everything here and try and duplicate your circumstances.

I can't see how GEX APT would fail on a GEX AFME license if AFME is not installed at all on your system.

Ha yes, the license update manager worked.

First I did an APT license update which changed the license file from 31Okt2020 in the F1 folder to todays date (01Nov) but that did not solve the problem.
After I did the same for Africa/Middle East its license file was also updated from 31Okt2020 to todays date and then the GEX interface worked.

Strange though that I have an AFME license file at all right?!
I am pretty sure I never used GEX in STEAM....but to be a 100% sure I would have re-apply my system backup from last week and see if I already had the license files back then.

By the way, in the F1 folder I have one more license file: utxtap2.lic
Should that one be there? (I have not installed UTX yet).

Thanks for the help Nick!

If you have GEX AFME installed anywhere on your system the interface will read it in the registry and if the license file is wrong or missing you would get that error.

Could it be an orphan AFME install from some time ago?

utxtap2.lic   That looks like something UTX nothing to do with GEX

Don't mess with any license files in that directory.

I can run through and duplicate your conditions by deleting the registry and running the F1 Tool to install APT and see what happens here to make sure there isn't anything off with the tool. If it does not show the same issue then I must assume that your system has/had AFME installed at some point and the registry was still present instead of being edited if it was uninstalled.

Will leave the license files alone :-)

It would be interesting to see what happens on your end yes.

But please....only try it if you are curious as well...over here all is fine now.

Ok, I ran into some airport elevation problems and decided to apply my latest system backup image from before trying to install GEX and TropicalSim Caribbean airports.

Rather then downloading all my GEX areas from the F1 Manager for later installation I downloaded and installed areas one by one.

What I did not know is that the area licenses are installed as soon as you have downloaded an area. So I had an AFME license because I had downloaded that area (even though I had not yet extracted or installed that area.)

I am now installing the downloaded AFME package to see if its license is again unvalid...standby

edit: no problems with the license whatsoever this time.

So, the reason I had an AFME license file has been cleared (comes with the download)
The reason of why this license was unvalid untill it was updated is unclear but easily fixed.

Ps...the elevation problem (in Bonaire) remains after re-imaging...so must be an FSX thing.

I found no issues with the license or system on this end.

As for elevations, that has zero to do with GEX. That is either the mesh, the mesh resolution or the airport code for mesh flatten in the sim
