Hello gents,

I've had UTX for Europe, USA and TAC installed for many years on various versions of FSX and now P3D. Currently using P3Dv5.1 and have encountered a problem with default airports.

If I position my aircraft at LFTH and switch to a map view the taxiways are obscured by UTX textures. I've dicovered that if I disable UTX Europe Airports they are restored. See two images attached.

I'm also attaching a screenshot of my Scenery Library so you can check the ordering is okay. I believe it is. Can you please suggest a way in which Europe Airports layer can be enabled but without causing these problems. The manual doesn't make any reference to this layer.

It appears to be an altitude issue. Same problem at another default airport - Genoa, Italy. LIMJ. The taxiways off the runway are obscured by grass. No such problem with v4.5 and the same ordering in scenery.cfg.

Surely I can't be alone in seeing this problem. I appreciate it's a Sunday so don't expect support today. Hope someone can identify and solve this problem because as much as I like flying into the many 3rd party airports I have the defaults are also interesting.

A further update... I have switched to USA default airports and also TAC ones and there is no problem with those. I have moved the UT Europe scenery entries to the top of Scenery Library so they have top priority. Still the problem exists.

How can something that works with P3D v4 not work with P3D v5? But it only affects Europe. A clash of scenery seems the obvious answer but I've disabled the obvious ORBX ones and still the problem persists.

I have years of experience with layering in Scenery Library but this is a very difficult problem to resolve. Hopefully a response from Flight 1 will soon follow.

I believe these two images prove beyond doubt that there is a problem with UTX Europe v2.1.

This one is from P3Dv4 with all scenery and add-ons enabled. The airport is LIMJ. A default airport.

Now compare that to how it looks in P3Dv5 with all 3rd party scenery and add-ons disabled. A default installation...

Whilst I wait for a reply I'm going to uninstall UTX Europe for P3Dv5 and try again.

I've uninstalled UTX Europe and reinstalled it. No difference. The problem still exists in v5 but not in v4.

Looking at the number and size of BGL files in each of the setups they appear to be identical. So the only change to this software is the installer allowing for installation in v5.

Has anyone at Flight 1 checked this software in P3Dv5? There appears to be altitude problems with many default airports which have not been picked up during any testing that took place.

I'm going to raise a ticket to make this formal since there's still been no response from anyone.

One final piece of info. The problem also exists in P3Dv4. I had disabled several airports including LIMJ. Has this package been reviewed since a 64-bit sim was introduced? The Europe Airports layer is effectively useless.

I have disabled that layer now and although I have far fewer parking positions that is preferable to having no taxiways.

It’s disappointing there have been no replies from support on this. The product is still on sale and is compatible with P3D v4 and v5.

Further investigation shows this problem also exists in P3Dv3.

Was this package ever tested with P3D? Confused

Today I have created a new AFCAD using the base LIMJ in P3Dv5 adding extra parking positions. That seems a more logical option as the core data is up to date.

I’ll just disable the UTX EurAirport layer andvthe equivalents for UTX USA and UTX TAC.

It seems that LFTH ( a UTX repositioned airport) needs to have the taxi link draw flags reset in the p3d\Scenery\UtEurAirports\Scenery\LFTH_AP.BGL file.  I'd guess this issues may well be found with all UTX repositioned airports in p3d v4 and v5, no problems with FSX.

I edited this file with ADE v01.79.7475 to create a new afcad bgl file and replaced the existing one (after saving a backup). After running P3d4 again, the airport looked correct with all taxi paths correct.  No issues were apparent when compiling the airport with ADE.  I expect this work work similarly with P3dV5

borgfan, Try Genoa, Italy. There are black boxes when the BGL is loaded into ADE. Impossible to compile without losing some buildings.

But given these files were made for FSX and are very old they’re not really useful any longer.

Hi Ray,
I quickly loaded LIMJ into ADE, reset draw flags, compiled a new AFCAD and when loaded in P3Dv4, I observed the correct taxi paths were shown and the airport looked ok ( as far as a default airport can ).  I did not have any problems with black boxes ( I believe these represent missing objects).

Very strange, can only suggest that you check you are using the same version of ADE as I am, otherwise I'm at a loss as to why we see different results.  (My version of P3dV4 is pretty standard, just UTX and GEX installed).

Hi Gerard, I’m using the latest version of ADE but for P3Dv5.1

I can’t imagine that makes a difference but it’s odd you don’t have the black boxes problem.

Firstly, as there has been very little activity in this forum it does not get checked as much as it did when the product was new and under active development for FSX.

While it is true that installers were updated for P3D v5.x, that is all that was done i.e. there were no changes to the scenery files. As P3D continues its divergence from FSX and the earlier versions of P3D, it may introduce issues where it no longer supports the same development techniques as before and minor issues may happen like you report with the sim not showing custom repositioned UTX airport features at altitude.

Reality is that currently sales of the product do not support further development at this time. The future of recreational flightsim gaming is now with MSFS 2020, and its use of photogrammetry means that products like UTX sadly no longer have a market.
