Hello, I am testing an XML gauge and find that FSPS (build 18222) won't load the bitmap. The bit map has been reduced to 8-bit / 256 colors, as have most other fs bitmaps. However, it doesn't matter much what color-depth they are. What I am doing is placing a subdirectory into the FS9 gauges\ folder and using the gauge from there. I had this working a few days ago, but now, none of my XML gauges will be loaded with bitmaps in FSPS. Wracking my brains over this one - please help. J- |

Both FSPS and FS2004 will look in the Aircraft's Panel folder first for Gauges, then to the main Gauges folder. Check to make sure you don't have the Gauge in two different places. You can also try clearing the Gauge cache in FSPS to make sure you extract the latest copy of the gauge.

Hello Ed, I am in the process of re-installing FS9 - just got too frustrated. Thank you for your reply. Just to clarify, I am working out of a subdirectory in the gauges folder. FSPS correctly sees is and places square brackets around it. However, the image just won't get loaded up. I am starting to suspect another gauge/panel, so I am just going ahead and re-doing my FS install. If my further tests bring up nothing, I'll check back in soon. J- |

Oh yeah, By the way Ed, FSPS sees the gauge just fine, it just don't load the bitmap (even though the bitmap is co-located right next to the XML file).

There might be an error in the XML, for example the gauge might have both high and low res info in <Size> elements but not have 640 and 1024 sub directories.

Hi Ed, Interesting, I tried it with and without the size directives, but thanks for the info on 640 and 1024. It is my understanding that <Size> is unnecessary for FS2004 at any rate. For the record, both FSPS and Abacus' CPD will only "see" a gauge if it is in the gauges\ subdirectoy and not if it is in the panel folder. I've tried both with the xml file by itself in the main panel folder and with the gauge in its own subdirectory within the panel folder. The only thing left for me to play with is using cabdir to cab up the panel and see if FSPS and/or CPD will recognize my test gauge from within the panel directory.
Thanks... |

Actually FSPS will see gauges in the Panel folder. Scroll to the bottom of the gauge list and you'll see an entry with the Panel directory name in square brackets, [Panel Folder] and you'll see the gauges located in the panel folder. Make sure you have the latest version of FSPS.
Size is not necessary if you have a background image, but will overide the bitmap size if you do. All the FS2004 gauges no longer use the 1024/640 convention, since no one probably need low res gauge bitmaps any more. You can email a copy of your gauge to support@fspanelstudio.com if you'd like me to take a look at it. |
