Where was your aircraft located during the test and was the location the same on both server and client. In other word, both server and client had the same airport elevation.

Had to take a break from it!
Now, after a reboot of both PCs I was not having the problem anymore until I tried LOWW (thats Fly Tampa Vienna addon airport). I just reboot again to see if I can reproduce the problem. |

Try the LV Tests at EGNX, does it work correctly?
If it’s just a problem at an add on airport then maybe that airport has not defined its elevation correctly. Try at EGKK, EGLL, etc. Non add on airport sites. Stephen

so nothing wrong then?
Just the addon LOWW not defining its elevation data correctly so when the test sets the aircraft altitude it’s still at or below the defined ground of the airport? Stephen

After reboot the LV test works fine again at EGNX.
Shutdown FSX and Opus (both Pcs), restart FSX and Opus (both PCs) > load LOWW, aaaaand....yep same problem again. So it is something with Vienna Fly Tampa. The strange thing is that before I could not get rid of the problem if I changed to another airport...now, changing airports immediately solves the problem. Maybe that is a difference between v4 and v5? Strange. But ok, from now on, LV test at default FSX airports only for me!

Yep, they’ve just forgotten to define the elevation data correctly or perhaps a fault of the sim.
Glad it’s resolved. Stephen

I retried at TE68 nuggs flying M...the first airport in my airport list, and although it is a default FSX airport, I have the same problem there.
Thats kinda screwy because I was assuming that default aircraft+default airport could not cause a problem. Did a whole bunch of my tests at that middle of nowhere place....cost me hours that little bugger!
Can you check tomorrow if you have this too over there please Stephen? |

I think I've fixed the problems at sites like LOWW and TE68. Just re testing everything at the moment.

Ha even better...I was not expecting a fix for elevation problems.
At the same time...sorry I caused you time consuming troubleshooting!
But I am glad I have one problem less that could be caused by my system. |

I have posted the fix as a beta, OpusFSI Beta Version 5.45.2 is now available, see Announcements.
I have corrected the problem using Live View Test at certain airport sites. However, the test now uses absolute altitudes for the test so ALL Live View Tests should now be conducted at airfields that are less than 2000 feet above mean sea level (AMSL). Also note our client system has now failed and needs full Win10 reinstall. So I was not able to test FSX clients, only P3D clients with OpusMSFS as the server. Its impossible to run FSX and MSFS on the same PC. Good news is OpusFSI v5 now works fine as a server to MSFS Live View clients. Stephen

Thanks for creating the beta Stephen.
I had some problems myself with BSOD. Looks like my overclock became unstable. Got that sorted out now...so looks like I will be able to try the beta tonight. Ps...reinstall...oh man...I hate that. Good luck!

Release 5.45.3 has now been posted with an additional fix. Note, all LV Testing should now be performed only at sites that are less than 2000 feet AMSL, this is due to the absolute altitudes used.

The fix worked :-)
And so I tried the „update rate test“ again. I could not smooth out the stutters at the client at all. All 4 cores of my CPUs (Haswell) were completely maxed out! (Hyper threading OFF) Question one: Is that normal? However, when I reset the BIOS to default, which means Hyper threading is then ON, things are smooth and the load is better devided over the cores and the cores are not maxed out. Ok so the client PC has HT ON for now. The next problem I need to tackle is whether it is better on my system to run FSX/Server at 30fps, 60fps or unlocked. (my goal is 30fps at the server but I seem to be getting too low pos updates then). So far I get the following result depending on the server FSX frame rate (but more testing needs to be done to confirm). server/FSX. client/pos updates 30fps gives 15fps > stutters at client 60fps. gives 20fps > stutters at client unlimited gives 30fps > smooth client Question two: Does this make sense? Or should the client pos update rate not be so overly dependent on the servers frame rate? |

It makes sense, FSX is best left set to UNLIMITED.

Well that kinda screws up my server though.
Because to get the smoothest experience on the server (no micro stutters etc), I run the servers FSX at fixed 30fps and allign that with the monitor refresh rate (60Hz) with a graphic card setting of 1/2Vsync. So its either a smooth server and stuttery client, or A stuttery server with a smooth client :-(

Well that’s just fine. You run your system with whatever settings are needed to give the best overall performance.
I don’t advise any particular settings. Why should I as it matters not with our external program. So set your system up how you wish as it has no effect on the OpusFSI function. Stephen

Something else.
The client has two spy windows to click but only one of the shows pos updates. The other one shows nothing. Is that normal or should both show pos updates? |

Thats because one link is labelled as POSITION UPDATES and the other link is labelled GENERAL UPDATES (for example changes to gear, lights status etc.). Best read the name of the link to find out which one is allocated to Position Updating.

(obviously I will not run both at the same time) thx

You can also have MSFS and OpusMSFS clients used with an OpusFSI v5 or v6 main server.
