G’day all, we recently purchased OpusFSI_v6 as a management tool for a Buttkicker for our 737 simulator (P3Dv4.5). The install progressed seamlessly, using the setup guide as a reference. On completion of the install, we ran the Opus icon as an administrator. The Opus interface opened followed immediately by an. ‘Unhandled Exception Error’ message

Could not load file or assembly ‘SlimDX.dll’ or one of its dependencies. Is not a valid Win32 application (Exception from HRESULT:0x800700C1).”

We have been at it for a few weeks now and it has now got the better of both of us.

Any ideas as what is going on? Happy to provide any information pertinent to the install.

Thanks in advance

Steve Young

The SlimDX libraries must be missing on your windows install. Run the supplied SlimDX MSI install file in your OpusFSI v6 folder.

You may also want to install all supplied Redist packages just for good measure.

G’day Stephen

I checked in C:\Windows\WinWOW64 which is where slimDX.dll is supposed to be kept and It wasn’t there. So I installed it by hand, and rebooted.
Still get the same error message though. Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

You MUST install using our supplied SlimDX msi file. Also install all supplied Redist packages, both x86 and x64.

Thanks Stephen, will revisit that and run those installers. Another question that may seem somewhat ‘silly’ - does the software need to be activated using the serial key received on purchase? I didn’t see anything in the ‘Getting Started’ instructions but curious just the same.

After purchase a licence file (.lic) is created for your PC. This is hardware specific. Your key file (.key) is only needed if you need to activate a new licence on a new PC or have made changes to your current PC (installed new windows op sys for example).

If you do need to install on a new PC then the key file is used with the Purchase EXE wrapper again to create the new licence file without actually re-purchasing the software.

Having run the Slim DX and all Redistribution files we still have the same problem. We are running an old version of Win 10 (1909) that’s compliments our iFly setup. Does it require a later version?
To be clear the only SlimDX installer l can find is the SlimDX Runtime.NET 4.0x64 (January 2012) and we have run that. What is the result of running that installer and what should we see?

It should install the SlimDX libraries on your system, you would see a typical Microsoft Install process. Make sure any AV software is shutdown so that it is not blocked. Make sure you have installed OpusFSI in its own ‘root’ folder (e.g. c:\OpusFSI_v6).

Also make sure your Windows system is fully up to date. Reboot after installing the SlimDX msi.

I have just installed OpusFSI v6 on a newly built Windows 11 PC. I got the error message..

************** Exception Text **************
System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'SlimDX.dll' or one of its dependencies.  is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1)
File name: 'SlimDX.dll'
   at d.f()
   at bx.bp()
   at bx.x(Object A_0, EventArgs A_1)
   at System.Windows.Forms.Timer.OnTick(EventArgs e)
   at System.Windows.Forms.Timer.TimerNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
   at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

I then installed our supplied.

SlimDX Runtime .NET 4.0 x64 (January 2012).msi

in our standard c:\OpusFSI_v6 folder, for use by Anyone using the computer. I then ran the P3DSERVER.EXE in Admin Mode again (without rebooting) and all ran OK.

Cheers Stephen, l will most likely uninstall and try again as per your instructions. Are there likely to to any residual files hanging around after the uninstall that need to be removed before reinstall?

Could just try uninstalling SlimDX then shutdown any AV software and install our msi within your c:\OpusFSI_v6 folder. Finally run P3DSERVER.EXE in Admin Mode.
