I've had FSPanel Studio for several years now and keep getting errors in displaying gauges when loading a panel. After clicking ok as it tries to load the gauges, I end up with a panel bitmap with numerous empty purple squares. Usually only a few gauges load. Oddly, it loads all gauges once, the first time I load a panel, after that I get the errors. This doesn't happen on all panels but if it happens on a particular one, it keeps happening to that panel. I've had this issue with previous versions as well as previous computers & operating systems. It's happened with FS9 and FSX, on my previous XP system and now on my Vista system.  I'm currently using Vista with a quad core cpu, 6 gigs of ram and an Nvidia GTX9800+ card. I have only one account on this computer and run it as administrator.
I've been suffering with this for several years now and after trying to edit the Microsoft Beaver panel and having nearly all the gauges having display errors, I'm frustrated enough to post here.  If anyone has had this same problem and knows of a fix, it would be appreciated. Sadly, I haven't seen or heard of anyone with this issue before (?)
Thanx.  Confused

You need to post the exact error messages, there can be several reasons why a gauge will not load.

On Vista, you need to run FSPS as Administrator, not just be logged in as Admin. Right click on the fsps.exe file and "Run As Administrator".

If you are having problems with XML gauges, it may be due to the un-cab process. Try clearing out the cache with the "Gauge:Clear Gauge Cache" menu pick.

Which panels and which gauges are you having problems with? Please be specific.

We will need to know the exact error messages before we can provide any more suggestions.

Tried that even though UAC is disabled and Admin is the only account on this computer.

Currently it's on the default DHC2 Beaver in FSX. Over the last couple or three years, it's happened on random panels in FS9 and FSX, on an XP system as well as this Vista system.
I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this problem :(

You are having problems with file permissions. XML gauges are uncabbed to the "C:\Program Files\FS Panel Studio\EGDIR" folder. Do you have any programs open which may be opening files in this folder? (e.g. XML file editor).

You should be able to exit FSPS, then manually delete the EGDIR folder. If you can't then there is some process which has locked a file in this folder or has a file open in this folder.

There are utilities available that can help you track down opened files, for example "Process Explorer" from Microsoft (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx)

I don't have any folders under the FS Panel Studio folder :(
I don't have any xml editors as I haven't tried to "edit" any gauges.
Thanx for your help. Cry

- You won't see any XML gauges if FSPS can't create its temporary files under EGDIR
- Where is FSPS installed?
- Can you manually create a folder under the FSPS install folder?
- Try uninstalling and reinstalling in a "safe" location, like "c:\temp\FSPS"

Alky:

I have had the same problem, so I'm posting mostly to tell you you are not alone!  I will take Ed's suggestions about clearing the cache and deleting the EGDIR file before I come back with more specifics about my own panel failures.

I'm running Windows XP; edit both FS02 and FS04 gauges and panels, and regularly edit XML files to make custom gauges.

Regards-

I'm getting it a lot with Microsoft default planes in FSX. If I reboot the panel's gauges will load again... once. If I shut down & restart FSPanel, they all have display errors again. In MSFS the Default Beaver, the switch gauges on the lower left of the panel are messed up after using FSPanel.
My work-around now is to have a backup panel.cfg which I edit and then copy & paste the lines where I've made changes to a panel.cfg that has never been accessed by FSPanel.
