    Posted: January-02-2011 at 1:09pm
I only use the 2D view- across 3 TH2Go screens, and my fourth screen is in the cockpit as part of my flight instruments panesl etc...So I therefore use only 2D panels.
Many new addon aircraft are only producing 3D panels these days. I would like to know if it is possible with FSPanels to create 2D working panels for these 3D only panel aircraft
eg. BN2 Islander, and many many others?

Thanks
Ken

The ability to create a 2D panel will depend very much on how the VC (3D) gauges are modelled. If the VC is made up of 2D gauges that are projected on to a Polygon within the VC then it will be possible to replicate those in a 2D panel.  Alternatively you can create a generic/customized 2D panel from 'stock' instruments from other aircraft.
Look at the Panel.cfg file to see how many instruments are referenced in the VCockpit sections: these gauges can be referenced in a 2D panel as well. If the instruments are not referenced then they have been 3D modelled and will need to be replicated with other stock gauges.

Regards

Jim

Yes it certainly is possible. You just need to identify and locate the gauges used in the VC using FSPS. They will usually be found either in the Gauges folder or the Panel foldewr of the the aircraft in question.

I may try FSPS as it seems to be the answer for those of us who only fly 2D SimPits in a world where 3D cockpits are now only produced.

I agree, too many horrible 3D cockpits and no 2D. I don't understand it, really. Where did you get that enclosure from BTW?

I built it. That's my second simpit.
I have taken this one apart and rebuilt it as I have moved just last month.
I modified a few things mainly reducing the enclosure to a more snug fit, like a real Beech Baron (my space in the new place was even smaller). I added Pro Bass Shakers under the two seats with shakers
on the yokes and pedals. The amp that powers it I built in beside the left seat wall. Quite awesomely real.
I'll post some new pics and vids on you-tube real soon.

What material are you using for the enclosure?

Just some 1/8th inch particle board finished white on one side (Home Depot).
They were cut to size and screwed to the 1 1/4" wood frame ribs on the inside. Then the seams were taped with black duct tape.

Oh yea... I carpeted the panels after I cut them to size. I used a cheap flat indoor outdoor carpet and glued each to the unfinished side. A nice effect for the interior.

Meanwhile the Friendly Panels Beech Baron 2D Panels (replaces the fsx default 2D panels), works wonderfully for my purposes. Their sound pack for Baron also enhances my Bass Shaker System.
I wish they made 2D panel and sound pack addons for many more commonly sold addon aircraft.
