I know that FSPS is capable of editing and adding gauges to the VC.
Is there any tutorials on this?  The manual that comes with FSPS only seems to deal with adding gauges to the 2D cockpit, which is hardly exclusively used by anyone any more.
I can not find any information or instruction on adding gauges to a virtual cockpit.
I would like to add the RXP FlightLine N gauges visually, to the Orbx Lancair, but when I try to open the panel.cfg, it says "No background Bitmap", so I get nothing.
Please give me some information that may get me started understanding the process of adding and editing gauges to the virtual cockpit.

Thank you,
Bob

Hi Bob,

In most cases the "VC panel" is actually part of the Model, and placement of gauges is less "logical" than on a 2D panel. This means that for the most part the best that can be done for VC panels is direct replacement of one gauge for a different one. Furthermore, in most cases the gauges appear "holes" through the panel, so unless the substituted gauge is the same size and dimensions as the one its replacing parts of it may not show.

Also, in newer panels the gauges themselves may be built as part of the Model, so there may not be any definite gauges to replace.

FSPS can be used to swap gauges in the VC panel, and if you cannot see the VC Panel to initially load in FSPS load one of the 2D panels (if they exist) first, then load the VC panel from the pull-down list.

Obviously, if there are no 2D panels and all the gauges are part of the Model there will be nothing for FSPS to work on.

As with most aspects of panel design/modification there are few "standard texts" available and most users learn by "trial and error". These forums can be a good source of information if you ask specific questions.

Cheers,

Alastair

MY question for the virtual panel is; how are some people putting the Flight 1 Aspen 1000 inside the pane and what software are they doing this with. I mean something has to be out there because Fs panel studio i cant seam to get it to just re place the two VOR's or just the Attitude indicator and heading indicator, because the instruments in VC 1 are in weird spots. Does any one please have ideas for me. Because i love the Aspen 1000 and want to use it all around.

You are going to have a hard time installing glass gauges into VCs which were designed for conventional round gauges..

If you have a specific airplane in mind, post it here and see if someone can give you a hand...

As a first test, if there are no entries for the main gauges in the Vcockpit sections of the panel.cfg file, you are likely out of luck..

wELL THE DEAL ITS BERT is that when you replace the vors seperately the Aspen 1000 works fine . and the way Microsoft paced these gauges in the FS-studio is unreal. I am trying to work with the 182 from flight simulator 2004.

You are correct, the C182 gauges are placed in an arbitrary way across the texture sheet and the panel will not show anything beyond the standard "holes" in the panel.

So for that airplane - it will not work, I am afraid.

The 2d panel is another thing altogether, there it should be possible.

OK, here is the picture of the A36... have you got a 172 or 182 panel?

Maybe that way we can determine what model we are looking at..

And, it is "Bert", Mr Pieke was my dad...

I think aircraft developers should allow users a configuration option for VCs that allow you to disable 3D knobs and possibly bezels for those that wish to retrofit third-party glass cockpit gauges to their aircraft. How about providing some form of blank intrument plate layout options?

I'm sure I've seen one or two FSX aircraft have provided at least the ability to disable rendering of 3D controls and this was very helpful for my retro-fitting RXP gauges to the VC without inappropriate 3D controls sticking out of the gauge where there should be none :)

Yes you are right (  darrenecm  )  but it has not really been done yet. Bert the gentel-men above some of my writing has helped me through some tough thinking i must get back to him though. Also i have seen many a 2004 aircraft with the aspen glass panel systems but still cant figure out how to put it in the VC. any way i lost my code and have to try and find it for the Aspen 1000 but hey man keep trying i will.
