So technically, the transducer (BK or Aura PB) is not processing FS sound/audio into vibes, but Opus generated audio. Hence a seperate soundcard for the BK/Aura is preferable.

Stephen,

So my next FS pc will need at least 2 sound cards.Ermm (I already need one to seperate ATC and aircraft sound).

Does such a card need any special specs, or can I use the cheapest in the shop?

From the BK Guide...

The ButtKicker must be wired into the audio. We recommend using a Sound Blaster X-Fi Go PRO USB sound card for the ButtKicker control to separate the BK audio control signals from the simulator's sound.

The USB sound card is small, low cost, and simply plugs in to a spare USB port.

It doesn’t need to be high spec, it’s simple sinusoidal audio. Just send it to a speaker and you’ll hear the simple audio waves.

I have searched for it here in the Netherlands a few years ago, but definitely could not find it. So it's available at Amazon. Thx.

You will see many very low cost (From £7) alternatives. Never tried them but they should be ok.

I had a low cost USB, which broke as soon as I plugged a jack into it. Cry So rather stay away from these (ultra) low cost gadgets. And always a bit sceptic when it comes to specs outside the ordinary use.

Hello Stephen,

I have a question regarding this buttKicker feature.

According your installation guide, we have to enable DHM view.

We wonder if it is compatible with our Prepar3D settings: We have a wrapping system based on Immersive Display. To obtain this wrapping, we have to enable the P3D viewgroup feature and to choose a specific view created by ImmersiveDisplay.

We can’t change this setting. Will it work with your software?

ButtKicker control should work just fine with the exception of turbulence vibrations and turbulent bumps. All BK turbulence is only possible when coordinated with our DHM.

So yes, all features except for turbulence effects will work.

If you have any problems with DHM disabled just let me know and I'll mod the software.

In fact I'm testing it now so will make sure ButtKicker control is enabled with all DHM turned OFF.

I can confirm that with all DHM effects disabled in OpusFSI v6, ButtKicker control will still be active with the exception to all turbulence vibrations, turbulent and landing bumps (these effects rely on coordination with DHM). All other ButtKicker effects work as normal.

Hello Stephen, I have just tested the trial version and I have two questions:

-we move flaps from the Prosim 737NG Aircraft model, the BK reacts during few seconds but stops. However, flaps are still moving in P3D. From the test console, we see the “stopped” message.
In another thread you said to extract flaps position from SimConnect. So, it should be a  SimConnect issue. Do we have a way to improve this behavior?

- Do we have a mean to start your software “minimized” or to hide the OpusFSI windows after start (without human action) ?

You can start any process minimised. If creating a desktop shortcut then you can specify its startup in its Properties. I think the process will remember it’s windows state as well. The main form is not top most so it shouldn’t be an issue, it will always be hidden behind the sim.

There’s absolutely no indication of flaps, gear, or anything else moving on the aircraft. No indication or data whatsoever. So ButtKicker has no idea how long anything takes to move.

I may look to see if I can make the actual duration configurable.

Hello Stephen,

We have no touchdown bump with OpusFSI. Is it normal or due to the test version?

We have installed V5 for P3D V4.0 and DHM is not active (we can't use it with the P3D viewgroup/wrapping activated)

I will have to compare it with the V6 non DHM ButtKicker control.

I will be checking to see if I can separate the DHM Control and BK Control in v5 and v6 after investigating the following upgrade to OpusMSFS first.

ButtKicker Profiles and Configurable Timings

Looking at adding configurable timings for the BK effects (e.g. Gear, Flaps) and allowing separate profiles to be created for selected lists of aircraft (assigned aircraft list).

Hello Stephen,

I saw you did a lot of change on ButtKicker management:
- Flaps timer on MSFS version
- "DHM related effects when General DHM effects has been disabled" for V6 version

but what about V5. have these changes been integrated in you FSI Opus V5 version? I don't find this information in the annoucement threads.

Hello Stephen, I have two issues.

My configuration has Prepar3D V4.4, B737 prosim model and the last OPUSFSI V5 (downloaded yesterday).

Butkicker is working well on engines events.

But it doesn’t work at all for taxi phase. In the monitoring form, I see messages from engines events but none for taxi. In the configuration page, Taxi checkbox is checked, and values are set in the taxi group box. I don’t understand why this part is not working

The second issue appears during reversers used. In the sim, N1 grows to 70% and keeps this value until we remove reversers. In your software, the monitoring form shows that ENG butckicker sounds volume increases but after few seconds (maybe 3 seconds), ENG volume message comes back to 30% as if we have disengaged Reversers. I can send you screenshots if it is not clear. How could we have butckicker events during all the reversers step ?

Engine vibrations will be based entirely on the N1 (assuming Jet Aircraft selected in DHM options) within SimConnect so it does rely on SimConnect and not the third-party addon aircraft sim.

Taxi vibrations should depend entirely on the reported SimConnect ground speed.

I will test OpusFSI v5 with P3D v4 just to make sure all is working.

Hi,

I have tested the engines and taxiing ButtKicker audio with both Piper Cub (test Piston type) and the F-22 Raptor (test Jet type). I tested with OpusFSI v5 (version 5.47.1) and P3Dv4 (version 4.5.14, SimConnect 4.5).

In all tests both engine and taxiing vibrations are output correctly and reported in the ButtKicker Spy window.

Example engine outputs are reported as,

SND  BK1.0 ENG PlaySound: 65Hz, 17
SND  BK1.0 ENG Volume: 18
etc.

Example taxiing outputs are reported as,

SND  BK1.2 GND PlaySound: 45Hz, 14
SND  BK1.2 GND Volume: 15
etc.

Reverse thrust will also be reported as ENG output. I will investigate that further with the PMDG 737.

Thank you for your test. I give you more details.
Here my settings. For test purpose, I enable Taxi and Landing only.

2 - Taxi (here 118 kts on grounds Big smile

3 - no message in the monitoring

------------------
regarding the second issue on thrust reverser.
1 - Apply reversers

2-Bass shaker works fine during some seconds but ENG bass shaker volume comes back to the minimum while still n1 > 79%

What DHM are you using. In OpusFSI v5 ButtKicker is driven by the currently active DHM, either through a selected Live Camera VC View or the General DHM VC View if LC is disabled.

For DHM Jet Types the engine vibration is taken from the N1 data. Reverse thrust selected when the sim throttle is in position -10.

If the taxi volume reaches max then it wont report anything unless it changes. So sitting at that ground speed would most likely report nothing. Also if you became airborne for an instant you would not be deemed taxiing until you was back on the ground and your ground speed reduced below 60kts for a jet aircraft (40kts for a piston).

My guess is at that speed you became airborne momentarily and so was deemed to be in flight.

Please test taxiing on the ground at normal taxi speeds, you should see the GND reports as things change. Spy only reports changes.

I may add further Spy data to indicate what sim data was used to derive the current volume level.

Hello Stephen,

Ok so it comes from the DHM feature: As i explained in my previous thread, DHM can't be actived on our sim. It is in conflit with the multiview settings in Prepar3d. It is why I sugest you to add a feature "DHM related effects when General DHM effects has been disabled"

That has been done in OpusFSI v6 and OpusMSFS versions which have a different design to OpusFSI v5. This feature is not so easily achieved in the older OpusFSI v5 design which is quite tied in with the DHM operation.

Hello Stephan, we could upgrade P3D to P3D V5.1 and use OpusFSI v6.
Do you have an upgrade offer from OpusFSI V5 to V6?

No upgrade offer the full licence price was reduced for v6. OpusFSI v6 is compatible with P3D v4.5+ and P3D v5.
