After an SSD crash I had to re-download and instal GEX.
I created a E:/GEX folder and pointed the GEX installers there. After my regions were installed into Win7 (Europe/AFME/APT/ASAM) I ran the GEX interface for the first time. (all as admin) The interface started and asked me if I wanted to move the backup location. I did and moved the backup destination to the same folder as before E:/GEX. Now, all seems right, in my newly created GEX folder I have: GEX EUROPE GEX Atlantic and Pacific Tropics GEX Asia and South America GEX Africa and the Middle East GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP Nothing is installed into FSX yet! however, the interface reported it had seen another Gex Regions Backup and that files would not be overwritten. Now I dont have another GEX backup anywhere anymore since I just redid everything. Strange is that if I search my C disk, I find two GEX_Regions_Backup related folders. (for example C:\users\Rob\Recent) But I can not navigate to these folders as they dont actually seem to exist. (hidden files and folders are shown by the way) Maybe they are registry left overs from an old install. The question I have is; Is my E:\GEX\GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP complete (Size 4.03GB/Size on disk 4.20GB, 7194 files, 3 folders) or not? Or did I just overwrite data in my GEX regions folders with backup data? Can I delete the backup and rerun it to make sure?

In a situation like this where such a crash takes place and things are not starting over clean there could be registry or other issues that can cause some confusion because the interface does not understand what the heck happened. Regardless, from the number of folders and the size of the backup directory without GEX NA and AA installed as well as UTX not being detected or installed, I would say the GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP on the E drive in the GEX folder is correct and secure. But that is probably the OLD backup if that is where it was originally located.. and nothing is overwritten in it if the files were already present. |

If that is a new directory and GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP was not present till you moved the backup path there via the interface, its the same deal. Without GEX NA/AA and UTX that looks correct to me.
Nothing is ever overwritten by the backup system. It checks and if a file is already present it does not overwrite and skips. It only adds to the backup.

Yes E:\ is a new HDD that did not have a GEX backup before.
Thx for confirming that its probably a registry problem and that the backup should be ok. I also made a pre-GEX backup of the STEAM/FSX folder....just in case.

Oh yes...one more thing.
I still have the GEX installers in C:\ USERS\Rob\Appdata\Roaming\Flight1 purchase. (10.7GB) I‘d like to move them off C:\ and to a data disk...should be no problem right? (purpose: reduces the size of Backup Images I make of C:\)

Is that from the Flight1 Purchase Agent?
If so you should use the purchase agent tool itself to move the storage directory for downloaded products.

Yes but,
First the Flight1 agent downloaded the GEX zip files. About 10 GB for the 4 areas. Then I had to extract them files...and ended up with the .exe files and, ofcource a little over 20GB (of ZIP files + .exe files). During install into Windows I then changed (moved) the directory to E:\GEX. I have deleted the ZIP files (as they are just unzipped .exe files). Boom, 10GB gone :-) Now I want to remove the .exe installer files as well. I dont think there is an option for that in the file agent but I will take a look later tonight. There should be no need for the .exe installers anymore though (except for a re-install into Windows). Boom, another 10GB gone :-)

All I know about the tool is it has the option in its settings to move its download cache where the zips were downloaded to and probably where you extracted them. You can opt to delete the zips and keep the extracted files somewhere else so you do not need to download them again.

I must have overlooked that option. So I will do it manually then. Thx.

I do believe if you run the option to move the cache it will send all files downloaded in the cache with it... check it out and see if that solves your space issue.
