OpusFSX Beta Version 3.11.0 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v311_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder).

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

The Opus SID and STAR Reports int the OpusSidStarReport.txt file are now generated for your current location and specified destination station. The SIDs are only listed if you are on the ground at an airport which has Standard Instrument Departures. The STARs are only listed if your specified Destination has Standard Terminal Arrival Routes. Default SID and STAR data is not provided by Opus Software so you must have appropriate Navdata installed on your system.

At present only the standard Navigraph format is decoded, the next beta will include the PMDG format..

Both SIDs and STARs are listed in normal order (alphabetic order) to aid comparison with the list displayed in your GPS and FMC. All SIDs show the headings you would be departing to, all STARs show the directions you would be arriving from.

Regards
Stephen

N.B.

The LWE now ignores all pre-version 3.11 GRIB data files so users no longer have to delete the OpusFSX\GRIB data files.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.11.1 is now available for download on our website.

Improved the GRIB target wind allocation within the Opus weather map.

Importing camera views from a CDF file now imports the joystick buttons and key combos that were originally assigned to the views.

Both the standard Navigraph and PMDG Navdata formats are now accepted for SID and STAR report generation. A problem with the standard SID and STAR file access has also been corrected. User's should now use the Default location for the standard Navigraph Navdata (i.e. leave the field blank or showing Default), and only browse for a different Navdata folder when something else is used.

P.S. At present the OpusSidStarReport.txt file is only generated when you select the 'Show SID and STAR Reports' option within the OpusFSI Reports Add-ons menu. The file will be generated automatically where appropriate in a later beta or the release version.

Stephen

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.11.2 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v3112_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder).

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

The SIDs and STARs Report (OpusSidStarReport.txt file) is now automatically generated whenever the point of departure or the specified destination changes.

The Flight Planning Assistant (FPA) now recognises and decodes iFLY type formated SID and STAR files. Once again the user should just identify the location of his <FSX>\iFly\Navdata folder using the Browse button within the FPA dialog.

Improved the touchdown effect calculation to ensure the touchdown factor varies the full extent between light and heavy landings. The DHM Landing 'Test' software has also been changed so that it will alternate between lightest and heaviest landing effects on the display.

The Cameras dialog will now initialise by selecting your current view rather than just the first view in the camera selection list. Up and Down camera view selection arrows have been added at the side of the Cameras dialog to allow users to select the last and next camera views respectively. A 'Duplicate Head Movements' button has been added to the Cameras DHM dialog which allows the DHM and AHM settings for the current view to be duplicated into a number of other camera views selected by the user. Only selected views that have DHM Enabled will be effected by the 'Duplicate Head Movements' action.

Regards
Stephen

P.S.

We are otherwise engaged this weekend so if you have any problems with this beta just download the previous 3.11.1 (you will find it listed at the bottom of our Downloads page), uninstall 3.11.2 and re-install 3.11.1.

Client Side LWE Control has been added to the FSXCLIENT program via the new 'Live Weather Control' button. If the client is only used for live weather control then neither FSX nor FSUIPC4 need be installed and the user should set the 'No Connection to Simulator' configuration option in the Configure dialog.

Where possible the altitude bracketing in the generated Flight Plan Report (OpusFlightReport text file) has been increased about the specified Max Cruise Altitude. The user's specified Max Cruise Altitude is also indicated in the Averages section of the report.

The Flight Planning Assistant (FPA) has been changed to check all combinations of the user's Navdata, Proc, SIDS, STARS, and SIDSTARS sub-folders for either the .txt, .sid, and .star filename extensions.

Regards
Stephen

P.S.

Please make sure you double check your Configuration and all Weather dialog settings, I think I have covered all bases with the different versions but you never know. If necessary set all weather defaults again.

If you are planning to try out the client side LWE control then please refer to the Getting Started Guide for Networked PCs. The 'No Connection to Simulator' option does not need FSX or FSUIPC4 installed on the client computer but the client will still need to communicate and have access to the server's OpusFSX\Themes folder.

High priority options added to the FSXSERVER and FSXCLIENT configuration. TrackIR high priority option added to the FSXSERVER configuration, this option will effect the priority of the Opus FSXTRACKIR program as well as any active Natural Point TrackIR4 or TrackIR5 programs.

The Delete Camera Views option in the Cameras dialog can now be used to delete multiple camera views selected from a list. The user is queried prior to deleting the selected view and the FSXSERVER_UNDO.CAM file is saved just in case of mishaps.

Regards
Stephen

P.S.

For those of you planning on using the client side LWE control, in the next beta the FSXSERVER program will recognise that it is linked to a 'No Simulator' system and reduce the Live View updates accordingly. This will minimise the impact on your system by reducing to a minimum the amount of server-client communications.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.12.3 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v312_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder).

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

The server and client Flight Plan Assistant and menu Show... options now open text files with the user's chosen default text editor.

The client side LWE Control dialog is no longer opened as 'top most', it will now have an icon on the taskbar and can be minimised just like a normal window. Clicking on the Live Weather Control button will also re-display and re-focus the dialog, making it visible on the screen.

The FSXCLIENT program is always run in High Priority mode when it is configured 'No Connection to the Simulator'. This ensures a smooth a fast response to all LWE Control actions and prepares the program ready for future enhancements and remote control features.

An 'Import Flight Plan' option has been added to the FPA dialog. At present, you can import any Microsoft PLN formatted flight plan (with .PLN filename extension). The import option will initialise its path to your 'My Documents' folder ready for you to navigate to your actual 'Flight Simulator X Files', 'Prepared3D Files', or other folder name (for foreign language systems). Your PLN folder's location is remembered by the FPA software after you have selected the required .PLN filename. An 'Import Cruise Altitude' checkbox option is provided to enable or disable the importing of the cruise altitude from the flight plan.

All flight plans activated within the simulator are now decoded and processed automatically. For this to happen the FSXSERVER program must be running before the flight plan is loaded into the simulator.

Corrected a problem decoding the PMDG style SIDs data.

Low level turbulence strength has been increased slightly in windy or gusting conditions, especially so for the Light Aircraft DHM setting.

A Bump Aircraft slider control has been added to the DHM settings. A default setting of 5 is identical to the previous scaling for all OpusFSX aircraft turbulence effects.

The TrackIR High Priority setting is now saved in the configuration.

A Live View Scan Rate (0 to 60ms) adjustment has been added to the FSXSERVER configuration. This setting will control the position update rate communicated to the server allowing the user to match the preferred rate found using the Live View Server Test.

Flight plan decoding and import procedures changed to accommodate both FSX and FS9 formats and a variety of lat/lon coordinate formats. Where possible the flight plan reports now show the specified label of any lat/lon waypoint fixes.

Regards
Stephen

N.B.

Sorry folks, if you downloaded this beta before 15:00 Zulu then you will have to download and install again. I posted the beta earlier for a few minutes which included a small problem preventing the new Bump Aircraft slider setting from being saved.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.14.0 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v314_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder).

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

The download and preparation of the GRIB forecast data can now be followed in the Opus Lower and Upper Atmosphere Report windows. The procedure will progress through the following stages,

Connecting To The GRIB Server
Downloading The GRIB Data
Extracting The GRIB Data
Decoding The GRIB Data
Reading The GRIB Data
Preparing The Weather Data

The last stage covers both preparing the GRIB data for use in the weather map and also downloading the weather map's METAR data. The Decoding stage has been speeded up slightly to try and optimise the download procedure. Whilst the download is in progress the Lower/Upper report windows will indicate how many bytes have been downloaded. The following errors can be reported in the Lower/Upper report windows,

GRIB Forecast Data Disabled At Present
Unable To Connect To The GRIB Server
No Data Available At Present

The first message indicates that the GRIB download is disabled or not required at present. The 'No Data' message is a general error message implying there is no valid data available to prepare the Lower/Upper reports with. If the LWE is 'Unable To Connect To The GRIB Server' then no further cycle downloads will be attempted, but the LWE will attempt to download the expected current cycle during each weather update.

When the aircraft is on the ground and a weather update requires a GRIB data download, the LWE will ensure you have either the Lower or Upper Atmosphere report on display, if not it will automatically display the Opus Upper Atmosphere Report window so the weather update process can be monitored.

The Weather Update frequency and distance limits in the Download Options dialog have now been set to a maximum of 120 minutes and 240km respectively.

The FSXCLIENT's LWE Control dialog has been expanded to include options to display the various Opus Weather Report windows. The FSXCLIENT's LWE Control dialog will now remember it's position on the screen. Pressing the Process Flight Plan option in the FSXCLIENT's LW Control Flight Plan dialog now colours all 'inserted' airway navigation points green.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.15.0 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v315_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder).

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

Live Weather Assistant (LWA) and Weather Map options have been added to both the FSXSERVER and FSXCLIENT programs. The LWA option displays a large dialog containing a graphic weather map in which various types of weather data can be displayed. The Weather Map option does the same but with a much smaller screen footprint. In this beta the Surface Visibility, Surface Temperature, Precipitation Levels, and Met Station Cover options have been implemented but are still considered to be under development.

Cameras dialog will now automatically hide the FSXSERVER program's main form before being displayed in its last known screen position. The Cameras dialog can now be minimised down to the taskbar to assist those with limited screen space.

Unknown temperature and dew points within the flight plan report and all Opus weather report windows are now shown as '??', previously a value of -99C would be logged in the reports.

Regards
Stephen

N.B.  I am currently working on highlighting the departure, destination, and alternates on the LWA and Weather Map displays. I will also be showing the aircraft's current position on the maps and possibly including some form of legend. Just in case you thought I'd missed something. Smile

Shortcut controls added to toggle the FSXSERVER's LW Assistant and Weather Map on and off.

The LWA and Weather Maps now show your current aircraft's location using a cross hair cursor, the location of your de[arture and destination points (if known) using thick lined rectangular boxes, and your alternate sites using thin lined rectangular boxes. The captions also show the date (LWA only) and time of the last weather update.

The Precipitation Levels map now shows the approximate location of all cumulonimbus and towering cumulus cloud formations. All active thunderstorms (CBs in FSX) are identified using a red exclamation mark, towering cumulus cloud formations are identified using an orange exclamation mark. Thunderstorms always take priority.

All Met stations are now indicated on the maps using slightly smaller rectangular dots. The elevation of the Met station's is now shown within the information box as feet AMSL.

A Lower Frequency option has been added to the Bump Aircraft settings in the DHM dialog to cater for problematic aircraft sims, such as the Dash 8, that cannot cope with the higher frequency turbulent motions.

The full file specification for all FSX/P3D activated (loaded) flight plans is now displayed within the main Spy window of the FSXSERVER program.

Turbulence calculations no longer rely on the FSX 'in cloud' condition at any altitudes and factor in flying within the localised cloud layer boundaries.

The Weather Map has been increased in size adding 80 pixels to the map's width and height. Up to four Weather Maps can now be opened and positioned on the screen. The shortcut control will now just toggle the first Weather Map on and off the screen. The highlighting of the departure, destination, and alternate points on the LWA and Weather Map has been improved and made more consistent.

The Lower Cloud Cover map now shows the maximum cloud cover under 10,000 feet along with an indication of the reported cloud base. Lower cloud bases are depicted in darker shades of grey and various brush patterns have been used to indicate areas of few, scattered, or broken cloud. Solid colour fills indicating areas of overcast conditions.

The cloud cover in octas is now shown within the Information box of the LWA.

I have corrected a problem with the logic of the DHM 'Bump Aircraft'. In the previous beta versions the aircraft would be 'bumped' whenever you had either Turbulence OR Bump Aircraft enabled, this logic has now been corrected to an AND statement. In other words, you must have both Turbulence AND Bump Aircraft options enabled to see any aircraft turbulent motions.

A Reset option has been added to the Flight Planning Options dialog.

All hot key selection statements have been removed from all the OpusFSX_Custom_xxx.txt template files. These should no longer conflict with your F12 top down view selection.

The text in the Weather button on the FSXSERVER form is now greyed out and changed to read 'Updating' whilst the LWE is busy refreshing or downloading and updating the weather.

A single WeatherMap.dat file is now generated in the OpusFSX\Themes folder to update the LWA and Weather Maps instead of the previous separate WMAP_xxx.dat files. The LWA information box now indicates both the surface wind and surface pressure (QNH), the QNH is displayed in both millibars and inches.

The LWA and Weather Maps now include options for displaying the Surface QNH and Surface Winds. The Surface Wind map only depicts colour codes for wind speeds at the moment, the wind direction arrows have yet to be rendered.

The Surface QNH (or Surface Pressure) map is colour coded about the average surface pressure for the region, blue and green tints indicate areas of lower than average pressure, orange and red tints indicate areas of higher than average pressure. The full range extends +/- 15mb about the regional average.

The Surface Wind speeds are colour coded using blue - green - yellow - orange - red tints to indicate calm to strong (32 knot plus) winds. The wind direction arrows have yet to be added onto the map but all wind directions are displayed in the LWA Information box.

I have modified the TAF decoding process to take account of the American NOAA formats.

All Alternates are now appended to a user's flight plan. They are listed as 'Alternate' in a red colour within the Navigation Points box of the FP Options dialog. They are also identified as 'Alternate' points within the Route section of the OpusFlightReport text file and appended at the end of the Weather report section in a new Alternates section.

Further delays added during weather updates to help give the sim time to process the new data before resuming normal operation, including sending 3DOF and 6DOF updates for DHM.

Regards
Stephen

Regional conditions and the presence of cumulonimbus affecting cloud definition and appearance has now been changed to factor in the maximum regional precipitation rates.

FSXSERVER form's button options have been reorganised in preparation for adding a 'Control' button to open the small Live Camera Control dialog. This dialog will be used to control or move the camera view's eye point using arrow buttons (left, right, up, down, forward, backward, pitch up/down, bank left/right, and yaw left/right).

Two new 'Default Surface Visibility' options of 16km (10 miles) and 24km (15 miles) have been added to the Weather Preferences dialog to allow users full control over the default visibilities to use in place of reported 9999 and 10SM distances. The 'Set Defaults' button in the Weather Preferences dialog will now set the 'Default Surface Visibility' to either 32km or 48km depending on the current latitude and time of year.

Added waypoint fixes to the LWA and Weather Maps, depicted as small circles. After the upgrade, users must update the weather before attempting to use the LWA or Weather Maps.

Wind shear parameters adjusted slightly for thunderstorm and squall conditions.

Regards
Stephen

P.S.

This will probably be our last Beta before going to Release with these software enhancements. No problems have been reported with the previous version and hence this version does not contain any fixes. So please do not feel obliged to download and re-install unless you wish to try out or display the flight plan waypoints on the maps. I will take this opportunity to thank all the beta testers for their valuable feedback and patience in getting to this point.

Cheers

The FSXCLIENT program will now default to selecting the 'No Connection to the Simulator' configuration option. This option is automatically selected whenever the specified simulator exe file cannot be identified, all other configuration options are also automatically primed ready for 'No Simulator' use. That is, Live View Updates are enabled and Live Camera is disabled.

Just a quick update to help users setup their client side control systems.

If your system is already up and running then there is no need to download and upgrade to this. You could just disable your Live Camera FSXCLIENT configuration option on your 'No Sim' client. This option is not needed for 'No Sim' operation and is now disabled automatically.

Increased the number of displayable Weather Maps from 4 to 6 on both server and client systems.

Added Import Flight Plan and Import Cruise Altitude options to the FSXCLIENT Flight Plan Options dialog.

The Weather dialog now includes a Defaults button to set all recommended default options.

The Weather Downloads dialog now includes a 'Background GRIB Processing' option (default OFF). When ticked all GRIB data processing (i.e. GRIB data extraction and the lengthy data decoding) will be performed slowly in the background (as it was pre Beta version 3.19.8).

The process generating the weather map data has been pushed into the background to prevent having an adverse effect on the simulator's performance during weather updates.

Client Side Operation Using FSXCLIENT ...

If you are installing OpusFSX on a client computer system that has never had any FSX or P3D software installed of any kind and receive TypeInitialisation Errors when trying to run the FSXCLIENT program then navigate to the OpusFSX installation folder on your client and install the SimConnect libraries using the supplied SimConnect.msi file.

This information will soon be added to our guides and the FAQs.

On the ground, the LWE will now give precedence to the nearest non-AUTO METAR at airfields containing two or more local Met stations.

Cruise Level Wind and Cruise Level Temperature map modes have been added to the LWA and Weather Maps. The cruise wind and temperature data is now displayed in the LWA information box with an indication of the specified cruise altitude, displayed in the form of a flight level (e.g.'Wind FL340 200 at 65 knots').

The software has been prepared for the initial beta development phase for the Live Camera Control (LCC) feature.

Regards
Stephen Smile

P.S.  You will have to update the weather before the LWA and Weather Maps can be used to display any map data.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.23.0 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v323_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder).

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

General DHM Options have been added to the FSXSERVER's Configuration dialog. These options allow general DHM and associated 'Bump Aircraft' turbulence to be enabled for VC view modes, 2D view modes, and other general view modes without needing the Live Camera interface to set up camera views. Separate options are provided to enable the general DHM (and aircraft turbulence) for VC view modes, 2D view modes, and all other view modes.

Each view mode has its own configurable DHM and Bump Aircraft settings that can be adjusted by the user to suit their system or personal taste. These General DHM Options create dummy camera views and employ the same real life captured 3D accelerometer data with options to reference either the light or heavy aircraft data sets. All turbulence effects are supervised by the Live Weather Engine (LWE) which considers numerous meteorological and ambient conditions. At present these settings are not used when Live Camera is enabled.

The Spy window will now display the current altitude, elevation, and ground elevation in feet each time the flight crosses a weather cell boundary.

The Background GRIB Processing option in the Weather Downloads dialog is now set as default.

The incorrectly labelled MagDev phrase within the on-screen Opus weather reports has been corrected to read MagVar for indication of the local magnetic variation.

The Big Brother weather checks now detect and attempt to correct a high ambient temperature condition within the sim. The LWE's Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) calculations have been adjusted slightly to factor in the new 'in vicinity' meteorological conditions.

Stephen

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.23.1 is now available for download on our website.

Reported surface winds that are light and variable with no direction specified are now assigned the average wind direction for the local area.

Disabled camera views can no longer be selected using their assigned joystick button or key sequence.

The new Bump Aircraft's altitude bumps have been removed until a better method can be found, the previous effects caused problems with certain light aircraft during flight. We also recommend selecting the Default Weather Theme Size option in the Weather dialog along with all other default settings.

FSUIPC4 is no longer essential on the FSXSERVER system unless you intend to enable the CPFlight MCP737/EFIS device driver within the FSXSERVER Configuration. FSUIPC4 is still required on Live View clients that are connected to the simulator and used to display camera views.

If you choose to not activate FSUIPC4 then at the moment Opus will not be able to pause the sim, normally paused when opening certain Opus dialogs. Hence you will have to pause and unpause the sim manually. To disable FSUIPC4 simply remove the associated <Launch.Addon> ... </Launch.Addon> entries within the simulator's exe.xml file. In my exe.xml file I removed the following statements.

<Launch.Addon>
  <Name>FSUIPC 4</Name>
  <Disabled>False</Disabled>
  <Path>Modules\FSUIPC4.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.24.0 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v324_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder).

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

Initial beta version of Live Camera Control (LCC) feature. The new Live Camera Control (LCC) feature can be used to make adjustments to the current eye point for any VC, 2D, or Custom view types, all movements fully coordinated with Live Camera, all DHM and TrackIR head movements. The LCC feature does not require Live Camera to be enabled.

In this beta version the eye point can only be adjusted using either the arrow keys within the small LCC dialog, or any assigned joystick buttons or key sequences specified via the FSXSERVER's Shortcuts dialog. The LCC feature is currently only available for the FSXSERVER program.

N.B. Certain FSX key sequences cannot be assigned, this will always be indicated within the main Spy window. Invalid key sequences will normally result in a non-fatal SimConnect error when they are registered, and are subsequently not recorded as input events afterwards. If this occurs just try a different key sequence. The 'ctrl+shift' keys seem to work fine (e.g. ctrl+shift+U for Up, ctrl+shift+D for Down etc.).

The Live Camera and Live Camera Control dialog options for the continuous/stepped and speed settings are now saved in the FSXSERVER.DAT data file.

A Low Overcast Effect has been added for restricted Verical Visibilities reported in the METARs. Provided there is no Low Overcast Effect already present, no conflicting low cloud cover, and you have enabled the Fog Effect in the Weather Preferences dialog, then any reported Vertical Visibilities (VVnnn) with a limiting base of 1000 feet AGL or less will result in a layer of low level stratus cloud being added and an Opus Low Overcast Effect created extending down to the reported visibility limit.
