OpusFSX Beta Version 3.24.1 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v324_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm The OpusFSX TrackIR interface can now be enabled without enabling Live Camera provided one of the General DHM and Bump Aircraft turbulence options are also enabled. A Use Previous GRIB Data option has been added to the Weather dialog. This option is temporary and must be ticked each time the FSXSERVER program is run. When ticked it forces the LWE to reuse the previous GRIB data instead of attempting to download a new cycle. This option is intended for use with the Disable Weather Update on Startup on occassions when the NOAA GRIB server is unavailable. Regards Stephen ![]() |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.24.2 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v324_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm Corrected a problem with the TrackIR interface when Live Camera is disabled. The LWE now automatically sets the temporary 'Use Previous GRIB Data' option once airborne, this is done to prevent any new GRIB cycle data being downloaded after landing. Any new cycle data files will be downloaded only when on the ground before the very first flight. Regards Stephen ![]() |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.25.0 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v325_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm Introduced an Enable Live Camera Control option, distinct from the now labelled Enable Live Camera option. The new Enable Live Camera Control option can be used to enable or disable the Live Camera Control (LCC) feature which is used to adjust the eye point within VC, 2D, and custom external camera views. Introduced a Bump Aircraft Delay factor (0..4 = Fastest to Slowest, default 0). This can be used to adjust the Bump Aircraft frequency. The default (fastest) setting of 0 is equivalent to the previous Bump Aircraft without the Lower Frequency option set, a setting of 2 is equivalent to the previous Lower Frequency option, and a setting of 4 is equivalent to the previous trial Beta Version 3.24.3. Regards Stephen ![]() P.S. Should have warned user in the above post. Please remember to check through your DHM Bump Aircraft settings. If you previously did not have the Lower Turbulence option set then everything should be fine and the Delay parameter will be set to 0 as it should. If you previously did have Lower Frequency option set then the new Delay parameter will be set to 1. You should really set this to Delay 2 to be equivalent to the previous versions, or even Delay 4 if you were still having problems with Bump Aircraft. Stephen |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.30.1 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v330_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm Surface wind soothing procedure updated to allow the sim to cope better in calm conditions especially for low and slow flyers. All reported surface winds of 2 knots or less, or winds of 5 knots or less with a reported direction of 000 are considered calm. The direction of these calm winds are usually vastly different to the prevailing breeze so they arer now adjusted to coincide with the average local breeze. Please note, when the ambient winds are very calm the sim may sometimes just drift away from its wind targets, this is nothing to be concerned about since in these conditions the wind direction is almost irrelevent. View mode reporting via SimConnect is now only enabled if either Live Camera Control or any of the General DHM options are enabled. Regards Stephen P.S. Please make sure you set all defaults in the weather dialogs again, especially the smoothing dialogs. |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.31.0 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v331_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm Further anti wind shift measures have been included within the Sim Friendly GRIB Data processing. The Sim Friendly GRIB Data adjustments now isolate and prevent some known problematic wind directional changes whilst flying close to your specified Max Cruise Altitude. All Lower Altitude wind targets have also been adjusted to isolate and prevent other known problematic wind changes that can occur during the climb and descent. The LWE will now accommodate systems running at increased simulation rates. In such circumstances the sim is first slowed back down to a steady x1 rate before the weather is injected, finally the sim is returned to its previous increased rate. This procedure requires FSUIPC4 to be installed on the FSXSERVER system. N.B. On my system a simulation rate of x2 or x4 worked the best and did not require FSX to reload any data from disk. In circumstances where there are reported fog, mist or haze condition (whether patchy or solid) with a METAR that also reports no visibility restriction, the LWE will automatically limit the surface visibility to either 1000, 6000, or 12000 metres respectively. The FSXSERVER program will now recognise all joystick and input device names and attempt to match these with the camera views and configured shortcut controls. The program will now automatically reconfigure the views and control assignments whenever the input device order changes. N.B. Please take the precaution of backing up your CAM and CMD files in the OpusFSX folder. All user Shortcut controls are now backed up into a date stamped file (e.g. FSXSERVER_30082013.CMD), this is done automatically each time the Shortcut controls are saved via the Shortcut dialog's OK button. The Live Camera Control (LCC) dialog no longer resets to view changes when closed. Regards Stephen ![]() P.S. Additional Site Effects ... The above beta also includes the initial version for the Site Effects feature, at present only EGKK (Gatwick) and EGNX (East Midlands) are listed in our data. We are presently adding all other EG along with all well known International airports to the list. This extended list will be included in a beta very soon. The Site Effects are enabled when you specify the ICAO as your destination. A future beta will also include your departure and alternate ICAOs. |

This Beta has been reposted after 15:35 Zulu ...
Once you are satisfied that all the camera views are as expected and you have compared the device list with the FSX Controllers list in FSX SETTINGS then you should open the Cameras dialog and Save All Cameras, then open the Shortcuts dialog and click OK to save all your Shortcut commands. Now your Camera views and Shortcut commands will be saved with reference to the joystick or controller name rather than the joystick number in the sim. You should now restart the FSXSERVER program which should then reload your camera views and shortcut commands, each using the assigned joystick name instead of the number. After restarting if the assigned joystick or controller is ever disconnected when you start FSX and Ipus, the camera view or shortcut will be assigned a joystick number of X or 255, indicating that the controller was not found present. If you then plug the stick back in and restart then the cameras and shortcuts will once again be assigned to the correct controller. Similarly, if in future you add a new controller, the assignments will automatically be assigned with the new controller numbers and order. Stephen

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm My apologies. I have found an error in the previous beta posting relating to the joystick name assignment. If you could restore your backed up CAM and CMD files and try again with this beta your joystick and controller assignments should be converted correctly this time. In other words, 1. Restore the backed up copies of your CAM and CMD files. 2. Download, uninstall, and install this new Beta Version 3.31.1. 3. Run the FSXSERVER program, open the Cameras dialog and Shortcuts dialog and check your button assignments. 4. If all is well click Save All Cameras in the Cameras dialog and save your Shortcuts by clicking OK in the Shortcuts dialog. Regards Stephen ![]() |

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v331_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm The PMDG 777 upper wind and temperature text file will now be created and automatically copied to the <SIM>\PMDG\WX folder. This file is only generated during a weather update under the following conditions, a. When a Flight Plan has been specified and processed (or activated in the sim). b. When a PMDG aircraft is loaded and sitting on the ground. c. When the <SIM>\PMDG\WX folder exists. N.B. The PMDG 777 report is generated in OpusFSX\Themes\OpusPMDGData.txt prior to copying to the SRCEDEST.wx file in the <SIM>\PMDG\WX folder, where SRCE and DEST are the ICAO codes for the point of departure and destination respectively. To obtain meaningful data GRIB forecast data must be available, please check the Opus Upper Atmosphere on-screen weather report or associated Opus text report files (the OpusWeatherReport and OpusFlightReport files in your OpusFSX\Themes folder). An 'Enable Live Weather Maps' checkbox option (default true) has been added to the FSXSERVER Configuration. Disabling this option will delete the current Weather Map data and prevent any new map data being created during weather updates. Regards Stephen ![]() |

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v332_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm The PMDG 777 upper wind and temperature WX weather file is now created and automatically copied to the PMDG\WX folder each time the weather is updated, that is each time the METARs are downloaded (it is not generated each time the weather is just refreshed). The PMDG 777 WX file now lists all named lat/lon fixes in addition to the previous navigation and waypoints. Reported surface visibilities of 9999, 10SM, or CAVOK are now checked against the conditions in the general vicinity. Depending on the local conditions the usual 'Default Surface Visibility' can be reduced to either a minimum of 10km or 16km (10sm) visibilty, or the average surface visibility for the area. Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v332_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm A 'Set Camera' option has been added to the Live Camera Control (LCC) functions, shortcuts, and dialog. This option will temporarily save the current eye point offsets and assign them to the currently selected camera view. The 'Reset All' option must be used to reset all temporary offsets for the currently selected camera view. This new function allows the eye point adjustments to a camera view to be remembered and recalled each time the camera view is displayed. Handy for making seat position or general adjustments to overcome any changes to the usual reference axis for the aircraft within FSX. Regards Stephen P.S. This Beta was reposted at 08:20 Zulu after increasing the height of the information box within the LW Assistant dialog. |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.32.4 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v332_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm Additional site specific turbulence effects have been introduced for the specified Destination only. All sites covered by the standard Opus Site Effects can be found listed in the OpusFSX_Site_Effects_list.txt text file. Future betas will include the point of departure and any specified alternates, increased wind shear warnings, and also include many other American, European, and International sites. Users can experiment by creating their own site specific turbulence and wind shear effects. To do so simply copy and rename the supplied OpusFSX_User_Effects_Template.txt file to create your own OpusFSX_User_Effects.txt text file, further details can be found within the template file. When duplicated, the user specified effects will always replace the standard Opus site effects. All changes to the site specific turbulence effects will be logged in the program's main Spy window. Slew mode in combination with an imported GLOB METAR is most useful in testing any added site effects. The site effects are not checked when the aircraft is on the ground. Regards Stephen ![]() |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.33.0 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v333_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm The LWE will no longer force the Upper Atmosphere Weather Report on screen when downloading GRIB data. The user must now display the Lower or Upper on-screen reports manually to monitor the GRIB data download, data extraction, data decoding, and final weather generation. The FSXSERVER program will no longer load a static weather theme if you disable the LWE and do not specifiy any User Specified Theme Filename. The anti wind shift measures are now applied whenever the specified Max Cruise Altitude is 6000 feet or more and the aircraft is flying above 6000 feet AGL. The LWE lower level turbulence calculations have been revised to accommodate the Additional Site Effects. The Additional Site Effects wind speed lower limit is now increased by 10 knots if heavy aircraft is specified in the DHM parameters. The moderate and severe limits have also been changed to speed + 20% and speed + 40% respectively. The OK buttons have been relabelled as Save buttons in both the Shortcuts and the LCC Shortcuts dialogs. Live Camera Control (LCC) shortcut commands dialog will now permit a GamePad or similar game controller to be specified. The game controller's common axis dead zone can also be specified (default 0) along with the axis for the LCC left/right, up/down, forward/backward, pitch up/down, bank left/right, and yaw left/right movement controls. N.B. After plugging in a GamePad controller, users should delete all button and inputs assigned automatically by FSX to the FSX SETTINGS. Regards Stephen ![]() WARNING: Anyone using accelerated time within the simulator (e.g. with the new PMDG 777) must have FSUIPC4 installed and active. The LWE must be able to revert to normal time whilst updating the weather otherwise the imulator may not load the weather correctly, especially the weather at distance from your current location. |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.33.1 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v333_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm The FSXCLIENT networked client program can now be used solely for Live Weather updates, with Live View disabled, allowing it to be used with other Live View type packages such as on WideView/WideTraffic systems. Separate checkboxes are now provided to enable Live View, Live Traffic (not implemented), Live Weather, and Live Camera updates on the client systems. All of these options will be disabled when the 'No Connection To The Simulator' mode is selected. The Additional Site Effect runway codes can now be specified with an optional L (left) or R (right) suffix. In which case the resulting From and To Bearings will be biased toward the specified runway approach radial. For example, 'Runway = 16L' would be equivalent to setting 'Bearing = 150,190', and 'Runway = 16R' would be equivalent to setting 'Bearing = 130,170'. The number of Opus and User Site Effects is now displayed in the Spy window immediately after the current device list. The Total number of effects takes into account any Opus effects that have been replaced by the user's definitions. Regards Stephen ![]() WARNING: People with Live View networked systems must check the Configure dialog on all client systems and ensure the 'Enable Live Weather' option is ticked. |

Up to four POV or Hat switches can be supported for each controller device. Any POV or Hat switch assigned for use by the LCC should be removed from the FSX SETTINGS. The Hong Kong airport's ICAO code has been corrected within the Opus Site Effects. Australian airports for YSSY Sydney, YSCB Canberra, and YBCS Cairns have been added to the Opus Site Effects list. Regards ![]() Stephen P.S. Handy Tip ... If you suffer from the FSX anomaly (bug) that shifts the aircraft axis for certain aircraft (e.g. the new PMDG 777) at certain locations then try using the LCC to correct this before flight. First correct the anomaly by shifting the VC view using the LCC functions, then use the LCC Set Camera function to save the view offset and associate it with the camera view. Using this process it takes me less than 1 second to correct the FSX anomaly (I have the Set Camera LCC function assigned to my Sony PS3 controller's central PS button). |

METAR decoding and interpolation changed to add more flexibility to the interpretaion of AUTO METAR reports that may contain incomplete weather data. At sites with multiple Met stations the nearest Met station will now always be identified even if it is an automated station with incomplete data. General improvements to the weather interpolation and weather smoothing, improved weather interpolation at the outer edges of the internal weather map. The Cloud Smoothing option in the Weather Smoothing dialog is now disabled by default. Cirrus cloud altitude limits may now range from 10,000 feet up to 60,000 feet. Typical ranges will depend on latitude, in polar regions a range of 10,000 to 25,000 feet is recommended, in temporate regions a range of 16,500 to 45,000 feet is recommended, and in tropical regions a range of 20,000 to 60,000 feet is recommended. The default range is now 16,500 to 45,000 feet in line with the typical cloud heights in temporate regions. Regards Stephen |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.34.3 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v334_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm The Automatic Settings will now adjust the Auto Cirrus lower and upper height limits based on the aircraft's current latitude. The lower range will be adjusted to between 10,000 feet at the poles to 20,000 feet at the equator, the upper range will be adjusted to between 25,000 feet at the poles to 60,000 feet at the equator. The calculated limits are graduated throughout the polar, temperate, and tropical zones. For example, at EGNX East Midlands (latitude 52.8 degrees) the limits are set to range from 15,900 to 43,100 feet. At present, the actual cirrus cloud level is randomly selected to lie somewhere between these two limits at the start of the flight. The FSXSERVER's configured Live View Scan Rate is used to regulate the Live View updates, this should be tuned on fast systems to limit the position update rate of transmission to an acceptable level. By default the weather updates are disabled for 15 minutes on the approach. This period is set automatically by the Adjust Options Automatically option. The point of departure is now factored in to the Additional Site Effect calculations. The turbulence due to low level wind (rotor) effects adjusted slightly. Corrected a problem with the new default visibility reductions in the weather interpolator algorithm. The conditions for reducing the upper visibilities have been tightened slightly. The General DHM options in the FSXSERVER's Configure dialog are now disabled and greyed out whenever the 'Live Camera' option is enabled. All Live XXX options in the FSXCLIENT's Configure dialog are now disabled and greyed out whenever the 'No Connection To The Simulator' option is enabled. Regards Stephen |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.34.5 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v334_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm Initial beta incorporating ButtKicker device control via user specified audio outputs. Up to three ButtKicker devices can be enabled via the FSXSERVER's Configure dialog. Each device can be assigned to an audio output and associated with a DHM X, Y, or Z accelerometer data axis. This initial beta includes all means to configure and test the ButtKicker options currently limited to supporting only aircraft taxiing, landing roll out, and engine vibration effects. Please refer to the OpusFSX_ButtKicker.pdf document. A 'Toggle ButtKicker On/Off' option has been added to the Shortcut Commands to allow the user to disable and enable control of the ButtKicker devices independently from DHM. The default setting for the LCC Dead Zone has been set to 10%. Position update rate for 'No Connection' clients halved to about 1 update every 2 seconds. The procedure for checking the aircraft.cfg files and appending the Opus CameraDefinitions has been changed to incorporate additional checks to try and detect general failures or corrupt .cfg files. The new software will ignore all files containing the phrase 'Copy' (not case sensitive) and include extra validatation checks on the new config file before replacing the original aircraft.cfg file. The software must now find at least one '[fltsim.x]', '[General]', and '[CameraDefinition.x]' type statement in the new file before proceeding to replace the aircraft.cfg file. Previously the software only looked for a '[fltsim.xxx]' type statement. The above checks may help preserve the useful .old file created by Opus on some systems, but users should always backup all of their key files and folders (e.g. SimObject Aircraft and Rotorcraft folders, the OpusFSX folder), preferably onto a separate drive or computer system. Please make sure any backups of OpusFSX are named OpusFSX_Backup and not just OpusFSX. The Weather Options dialog now includes a 'Recommended Practices' Help button, identified using the question mark icon. Regards Stephen ![]() |

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.35.0 is now available for download on our website.
Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v335_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm Further adjustments have been made to the Bump Aircraft turbulence scaling with non-zero delay factors. The 3DOF (3 Degrees Of Freedom) Bump Aircraft tick box in the DHM dialog has been replaced with a numeric Up/Down box. The new box allows the Degrees Of Freedom (DOF) to be set to 1,2, or 3 as required. These settings are equivalent to turbulent jolts in Bank, Pitch + Bank, and Pitch + Bank + Yaw respectively. Users should set an appropriate DOF to suit their preference and capabilities of their aircraft sim. Turbulent bump effects have been added to the ButtKicker audio control. The way in which the audio device output names or descriptions are obtained via the DirectX interface has been modified to try and accommodate different language cultures. The FSXSERVER High Priority option has now been disabled and always reset to OFF. Regards Stephen |
