I've just tested the new OPUS 4.03.1 for injection of medium and high cloud. I wish to congratulate Stephen for (in my opinion) a complete atmosphere makeover. The injection of the medium and high level cloud is absolutely amazing!! Seriously, it really adds depth to the atmosphere in which we fly. Take it from me... a weather buff and RW pilot, the atmosphere is now a far more diverse and realistic environment to fly in. Many thanks for implementing this. It is in one word....fantastic!

Falcon, where'd you test out at? What would you say have been the most noteable changes from before and after?
I flew SMF-PHX but it's pretty clear on the West side. |

You should try the UK or Northern Europe, plenty of weather here. I should imagine KJFK is similar. Use the LWA geo map and new Middle Level Cloud Cover overlay to get an idea of the most significant cloud layer. The new cloud data in combo with the Cloud Associations should give very good and realistic results.

opus is sick now! the cloud coverage is a lot better. it is better now than the competition i think with the live camera! still hope for a weather radar one day :) then it is the best

No gimmicky weather radar (there are other Addons for that) just accurate detailed weather, accurate and detailed from horizon to horizon, real weather for real pilots, something that's only possible in the sim with our pioneered Dynamic Weather Themes.

any chance of getting this in OpusFSX or has the development for that completely stopped? I don't have the later version

Development on OpusFSX has stopped, the new development is OpusFSI with many changes and enhancements to both Live Camera and the Live Weather Engine. It would be far too much work to incorporate this into OpusFSX and really that's what the OpusFSI upgrade and new product is for. Preparation for incorporating the above was included in OpusFSI before its first release, we have simply finished off the dev and added some additional GFS data to factor in surface precipitation, TCUs, and CBs.

I never used cameras, effects, charts, etc, etc, just wanted the weather so never bothered updating.
Always thought cloud rendering seemed like it was missing a lot in FSX. We used to get the full cloud layer coverage weather in FS9 using FSUIPC and enabling the transition layers.. best cloud cover I ever saw in the sim from high to low including fog, but of course that doesn't work in FSX. They really screwed the pooch on FSX weather development.
None the less, I guess if I want to try this I have to upgrade.
thanks

Just tried the demo and updated to the beta
That's MUCH better than before. The cloud layers are no longer separated by lack of cover and extend far higher
This is more like the old FS9/FSUIPC weather.. nice to descend through the soup and not see strange gaps or reloads
Like I said, I don't need charts, flight planners or cameras.. just want good weather depiction
I think I will pick this up! Thanks Stephen

I'm sure you could think of this new GFS cloud data like interpolation. But instead of guessing it's using actual data. You're missing cloud extensions and gaps should be filled now Nick! :)
