TO ADD TO WHAT WAS POSTED HERE many years ago: http://www.simforums.com/forums/landclass-and-how-it-effects-what-you-see_topic24965.html
as well as my outline for installing and setting up UTX products: http://www.simforums.com/forums/solved-installing-utx-correctly_topic46147.html
I have posted this before but I thought I would make it a single thread post for ease of locating it in the future.
The following are the 3rd party landclass products I use and recommend with GEX/GEP3D. Like anything else with landclass, the files that tell FSX/P3D WHERE to place the textures, its up to the USER as to what works best for them in all these regions and locations....
North/Central America and Tropics:
UTX USA (primary urban industrial)+
SceneryTech North America - for the southwest and west with deserts
Xclass USA - (with their seasons9c.bgl disabled) for PNW or Central Rockies, some in NE too, depends on the user.. South Florida may be better with this rural LC
User must switch between the two manually as needed
UTX Canada + Xclass Canada (with their seasons9c.bgl disabled) hands down, the best combo
There is freeware landclass for both sections of eastern and western Canada that can be added which are quite well done.
UT Alaska - with NO other LC enabled. Requires disabling SceneryTech NA and Xclass Canada/USA when flying Alaska with UT Alaska DO NOT use any 3rd party landclass 'enabled' when flying Alaska with UT Alaska running.
UTX Tropical +
SceneryTech North America
UTX Tropical with no 3rd party LC can be best for some locations. ST NA covers Central America and the Caribbean too
Europe
UTX Europe +
SceneryTech Europe - for some of North Europe and perhaps some of Spain
Xclass Europe (with their seasons9c.bgl disabled) for Italy only
NOTE: UTX Europe comes with a complete veg LC and is usually best by itself with no other 3rd party in location such as Germany and a few others. Also best solution for southern areas like Greece.
Its important for users to learn how to switch 3rd party LC's to see what works best because I do not care who makes the LC or where it comes from, they all have their pluses and minuses that need to be evaluated by the user directly. There is not such thing as the perfect LC and never will be.
There is a freeware Norway and Finland landclass posted online and I do believe they were updated lately and can be used with UTX as well but must be setup correctly. Both are excellent additions for these areas.
Africa and Middle East
SceneryTech Africa for the most part but Xclass Africa/Asia has some highlights in this region too.
South America
SceneryTech South America or Xclass South America Both of these have their great locations and not so great. Both should be installed and switched as the user requires for different locations in South America. Where one my not do well the other usually will.
Tropical Pacific and Asia
SceneryTech Asia for the most part however Xclass Asia can work but not in very many places as we have seen. Xclass can add more of the forested areas. It can be a toss up in some locations. But ST tends to be overall best.
For Japan there is a freeware landclass I posted here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/japan-freeware-landclass-gex-asa-users_topic44729.html
Australia, New Zealand and southern Tropics
SceneryTech Indo Pacific, Xclass does not do very well in this location. The default landclass is very bad here and ST Indo-Pacific does the best job for this region.
NOTE:
THIS IS FOR ALL VERSIONS OF UTX.
The urban/vegetation layer sandwich for landclass is universal to all UTX releases
After installing your secondary landclass files, enter the scenery library through the FSX control panel, locate the landclass files you use and place them in the library list between the following UTX items:
UT LANDCLASS - Urban LANDCLASS X <-------------- Place all landclass products between the UTX Urban and Vegetation layers and enable as needed (only ONE)
LANDCLASS Y <------------------|
LANDCLASS Z <------------------|
UT LANDCLASS - Vegetation
Click OK and let the database build.
Also, always make sure the UTX scenery list item: UT Exclusions For Default Scenery is listed BELOW the UT LANDCLASS - Vegetation layer in the scenery library which should be at the very bottom just before the FSX default scenery entries
