Morning Stephen

Can OPUS import a flight plan that has been 'injected' into the SIM by another  3rd party program.  Active Sky does this automatically.

If not can this be implemented in a future update/version?

Thanks

Clive

PS how's the SIGMETS coming along?

Sigmets are progressing. You can import any PLN file, always have been able to, but you must use the Import option in the Flight Plan dialog.

Note, SIGMETs are of limited use within the weather engine. They will indicate areas of more severe turbulence and the possible CB cloud tops (although the sim cannot display CBs to that level of accuracy and OpusFSI already estimates cloud tops very well). SIGMETs will always be secondary to METARs (actual weather) and GRIB (forecasted) weather data. Both observations and forecasts reported in SIGMET form are generally very vague and usually out of date as the reports are reporting weather up to 4 or 6 hours ago. They will only ever supplement the more useful and accurate METARs and GRIB data.

SIGMETS are no use whatsoever to VFR flight.

Correct SIGMETS are for crew information and are received via ACARS.

Example of FP auto import

Sat at gate and receive clearance from ATC. At this point the FP is automatically injected into the SIM by the 3rd party ATC program. At this point Active Sky knows this and will automatically import the FP from the SIM into itself.

So, I would like OPUS to be able to achieve the same if at all possible.

Stephen, I would upload the ACARS prints, but cant find away. If you PM your email I will send them to you, so you will see what all this achieves in the 'immersion' factor

Many Thanks

We are continuing to work on including a SIGMET download option although they will have only a slight impact on the current METAR and extensive GRIB forecast data.

I will investigate including an automatic PLN file import and weather regeneration provided this can be determined through the standard SimConnect interface.

Regards
Stephen
