I have had the BN2 Islander installed for quite some time but only just got around to checking it out and just love the great job on the graphics, so many paint versions and the virtual panel.
However after only one small flight I could see there was a lot missing and the little things like radio, auto pilot and GPS were difficult to get at and lacking in operation. I also see a lot of comments that the BN2 will not climb or descend to a given altitude and of course there is no way to enter such an altitude anyway. Totally incorrect; it will go to an altitude if there was only some way to input the altitude (instead of being permanently stuck on zero).
The solution is to copy three windows from the base Beech Baron 58 into the panel.cfg file.
I replaced:
Window00=No 2D Panel
Window01=Mini Panel
Window02=KLN90 GPS

with these from the Baron:
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Radio Stack
Window02=Mini Panel...(no change needed here)

Then a little bit of tweaking deleting the two oil gauges at the bottom of the resulting 2D window and adding
gauge56=KingAir!altimeter_selector,  406,265,132,66

This is the tool that lets you input the desired altitude and now you have some nice 2D panels to call up and you never have to look at the ugly inoperative (almost) auto panel at the bottom of the vcockpit. I also couldn't be bothered trying to work out the KLN90 GPS so i only bring up the stock GPS from the Baron. I replaced the gauge00=Flight1_BN2_kln90a!GPS
with gauge00=Beech_Baron!GPS Icon so if I ever get lazy or drunk and click on it I will get the good GPS instead. The good auto pilot is at the bottom of the radio panel window.

Hope this might help some other players but sorry I have been so slow getting started on this wonderful airplane.

I should have mentioned to copy Baron_background_1024.bmp into your BN2 panel folder. I am including a copy of my panel.cfg below which will be easier if anyone wants to use it. Don't forget to make a backup of your panel cfg, just rename it panel_original.cfg or something. I have deleted a few gauges not needed from the baron Window00 such as undercarriage raise and lower and some of the simicons.
Happy flying.

Thanks for your kind comment Jeff.

No doubt users will be able to find small changes that will improve the experience.

I have already found oversights which I missed first time through.

For example the Mini Panel should come last so just reverse the order for Mini Panel and GPS in notepad.

There is also an error carried over in the gauges at the bottom of the Main Panel.

It doesn't seem to effect anything but should read as follows:

draw_order00=gauge39, gauge47
draw_order01=gauge40, gauge47
draw_order02=gauge41, gauge47
draw_order03=gauge42, gauge47
