    Posted: February-08-2010 at 7:17pm
I am currently using Nick's settings for the ENB mod and for me these are the best settings for FSX.   For my screen-grabs I have been using Snapshot V4, which is actioned by the 'print-screen' key.

Each picture is saved to the folder I specified, but I noticed that in addition a bitmap picture is saved directly into the FSX folder.  I then discovered that without Snapshot running, simply pressing the 'print-screen' key saved a bitmap to the FSX folder. I believe these have been saved there by the ENB bloom mod program because the picture titles are typically: 'enb2010_2_8_23_52_x.bmp'  with 'x' being the actual number of the picture taken.  On my 1680x1050 monitor each grab is 6.72mb in size.

Obviously not only are these large files filling-up the FSX folder, when removed the necessary de-frag is required to maintain smoothness! Unhappy

I would be interested to know if others have noticed/are aware of this?

I cannot find any configuration file for this function in the ENB program to be able to turn off this function either.

I only use the V key and deal with one folder, the FSX image folder in My Documents\Nicks Pictures

I would then use a program to open the bmp and resize it/convert it to jpeg

Nick - you answered that in just 18 minutes and we are an Atlantic apart!!Clap

I have been a flight-simmer for very many years and I either never knew, or had forgotten about using the V key.Confused

The beauty of Snapshot V4 is that it is a program dedicated to FS9 and FSX and saves in jpeg form at around 80/90% quality. File size typically up to 500kb as opposed to the much larger bitmap which also needs re-sizing as you state.

Unfortunately Snapshot is now unsupported and I cannot find a config file to change the screengrab key.

I have discovered a small freeware utility 'ScreenGrab 1.1' and this has the ability to save most common file types, to re-size the file percentage-wise when saving to your specified folder (including FSX photos if required) and, most importantly, will operate with any 2 keys you specify which prevents the problem I first posted about.

I assume that it is in order to post a link for free software on this forum which is:

It should be noted for all Vista (& Win7) users that there is a very powerful inbuilt tool called the "Snipping Tool" this can take full screen, part screen (sectional) shots and will save in jpg. png, gif or mht formats.  It works very well in FSX and as it eliminates the bmp to jpg conversion and resize issues - I find it extremely useful when I just want a section of the screen to be saved.  There is a version will also work in Windows XP.
