Take your time, Nick.  We all know how meticulous you are, so that probably goes without saying.  If it takes longer to make it right, then that's what it will do.  Impatience aside, I think the GEX community of users is just delighted to have something awesome to look forward to.

Nick... I am also eagerly awaiting this upgrade. Aside from the screenshots you have posted, in your opinion, visually how much of a greater impact is this upgrade. Screenshots are great, but the real test is running the product. Is this something you are all giddie about? Is it considered a "major" enhancement? Or a basic enhancement with some added features? I LOVE your product to begin with and I'm chilled thinking a major upgrade is about to drop.

Also, you have not addressed fps +/-? What impact is this product having regarding fps as it stands ready to release? THANK YOU!

- GO NICK!

FPS is the same as it is now with the currect USCAN product other than a trre tile fix and if you have the Europe release you also have the tree fix. If not you will get that fix with this patch

What you see in my screenshots is what I see. I achieve that by having a system that is able to deal with the render which also runs in 1920x1200 resolution, and, tweaking my personal system and display settings to obtain the look. There is nothing altered in those shots. You will have the same files I have and your system and your ability to adjust it will make the call on how it looks to you

So, it's the same... FPS will not change? AWESOME. I am VERY FAMILIAR with tweaking systems. I spend in REALITY around 1-2 hrs dailey just building the sim system. 4830x1200 (3 screens) etc. I run a myriad of add on "reality" based apps. I am encouraged that your new patch will not change my fps. For trees.. have you ever tried Natural World? Man, my local trees have never looked better!

So again, no fps hit with the update! BRILLIANT

Nick, maybe i am missing the obvious but i didnt read much about the GEX Europe and you may have said something there about this.  it appears, at least with autogen houses, that they are more properly aligned with roads on the underlying texture.  housing seem to follow roads better then before.  i could be completely wrong but looking at the new sets of pictures you have made me think that.

That is a really GREAT question. I echo that question. This week I was giving a look into my UTX settings. I keep choosing NOT to have secondary roads enabled because they do NOT line up to the houses properly. When I did select "enable secondary roads" they seem to cut through neighborhoods at weird angles. As stated in the previous email, GEX looks like it will align better to housing. I echo the above question. Are these new pics "random' repeated" pictures OR natural layout of the land? Thanks again, and STOP SHOWING US THESE NEW SCREENSHOTS! You killin' us man, we want it now! LOL

Great work!

UTX road were disabled in those images with the exception of a few shots in the last set

As with Europe, I hardly ever enable the roads. When you leave the roads enabled in the UTX tools but uncheck UTX roads from the FSX scenery library list it also removes the default FSX roads too leaving the scene clean of gray ribbon cutting through the textures. I dont miss the roads. I usually do enable them at night

Autogen will never follow the roads unless the autgen is part of the road system as options in UT Alaska was made, or, custom work where the entire city or area is built from the ground-up starting with a photo of the real area.

Nice !!!!!

What a fantastic work and thank you for sharing it with us before the patch is released.

Now flying with FS Altitude will become more and more accurate I guess (ST landclass inside) ?
That's why I'm leaving UTX roads ON.

Can't wait.  These beautiful products Just keep me grinning.   Very appreciative of the passion that keeps the FSX experience getting better and better. Thanks.

Also have been waiting for a look at the FTX PNW product, which seems imminent.  Will they all play nicely together? (GEX, UTX, FTX)  Will we even need it???

Other than the deep anticipation that EVERYONE is feeling around here, the one take-away I'm getting from this entire thread is the idea that maybe I really ought to try flying with UTX roads off.  You know, just to take a looksee.  Geek

I find the only areas I notice the roads missing are those I know from the air. Of course when I am VFR or night flying I do enable them. What is nice about using the scenery library list instead of the UTX interface is that the roads can be turned on/off in-sim on the fly without losing the flight or stopping the sim and it gets rid of the FSX default roads too. What ever you have enabled in the UTX interface for roads overrides the FSX default roads and the scenery library eliminates them all in one shot.

I know not all circumstances are best without roads especially if you are really into VFR and unchecking them also removes bridge objects in some places too but the option is there until the UTX boys hit other areas like they did with UTA

as for release..   common guys, it will be sometime this month but it wont be this weekend. I am personally dealing with over 2000 textures and also upgrading Europe at the same time .. give a guy a break! LOL

It will be worth the wait!  this is one hellof'a patch

If you dont have the Europe product yet and are using Ultimate Terrain Alaska, you are in for a heck of a ride up there. There are new textures going into this 1.09 update specifically geared for Alaska and other such mountain regions the Europe product does not install.

At some point we will look at the UTA project to see if there is anything we can do to spice up their textures for things like glaciers, etc. That will come a bit later but it is on the scope and will be offered as a option.

Yeah, that's a little disorienting -- UTX roads off.  If you're not familiar with an area, it might not seem odd.  Your screenshots are a perfect example, Nick.  They look awesome to me, but I haven't a clue where you're flying.  In and around my home airports though, it looks like I've entered the Twilight Zone, or some kind of alternate universe.  Think I'll keep it on.

You should have a confirmation number or a verification on the DVD

This patch is probably going to end up being a complete overwrite of the entire USCAN product. We will make that call once everything is compiled however if you purchased the DVD you should'nt have any problem downloading this and installing it as I do believe the DVDs have a verification method on them. Flight1 deals with that end of things, we dont so there are logistics we need to discuss with F1 after the patch is compiled. At this point in time I do not have any concrete information about it.

Nick, dont know if this is possible or not but cant hurt to ask.  can you show a before and after of the same location pre and post 1.09? i dont have the GEX europe so i am not sure what changes i should be seeing, thought from what i am seeing in your pictures, i am loving the color, sharpness, and overall look of the work that is being done.

thanks

As I said before about FPS...   we are not changing the autogen except to include the tree tile fix, therefore what you get now is what you will get with the update except better performance in forest areas

This is just a patch, a very large one, in reworking the current textures..    when we re-write the entire North America product it will far exceed what we are doing now

Thank you. It seems like developers are NOT giving up on the whole "Sim" thing. Most of my MANY add-ons are improving, updating and still in the market. Even Orbix FTC is a welcome sight. So, it begs the question? WHY IN THE WORLD did MS pull the plug on this thing? I have been buying MORE now, than I ever did. I keep looking for "news" about a MS FSWhatever, and it's erily silent. THANKS so much for caring and making things better! In my opinion, of all the products I own (TONS) GEX, and REX are the BEST! Anyone flying MUST BUY GEX, its a whole new world! This addition should solidify your product even more. Great job!
