Anthony just sent me some images from his first test filghts using GEX Enhanced, from the Grand Canyon.

These were taken using SceneryTech landclass. The different landclass files available will change the appearance of areas.

The Grand Canyon is one area that is VERY difficult to get right because ACES did not design the terrain to allow a 'layering' of textures based on altitude. In order to make the Grand Canyon look like it does in real life it will require a complete and custom scenery rebuild of the entire area to allow 'levels' of clear and defined textures which display horizontal errosion instead of the method ACES designed, streching them strait down. :(

None the less, GEX Enhanced will now bring the area to life in FSX!

Here is Anthonys flight in the Grand Canyon

Enjoy!

SceneryTech Landclass can be purchased at Flight1

But! If you dont have SceneryTech and use default or Xclass... GEX Enhanced works for you too!

That is the most realistic of the three, but still too much green inside the canyon.  Overall, very good.

i  do have to say SceneryTech does a very nice job!(better than default!)

i have SceneryTech, but i get all-kind of artifacts when i use it!

and there's the issue of town's that don't belong(at-all) in some place's!

any suggestions!, i've tried SceneryTech's home site, all i got back was that "their landclass is the most up to date"?Angry not so! if you go to saguaro lake in Az. and you will see a huge town on the north east side and the west side that dont really belong there! and i have found many more!Confused (UTX does a better job of small town placement!)

But they do have nice landclass!

And with NickN' enhancment w/GEX ! N I C E !

No way to control that.. its a landclass issue and nothing to do with GEX

Nick,

Having just gotten into the GEXe and UTX + landclass add-ons to FSX, must say I am impressed. Having said that I take note that the GC seems to get a lot of coverage when doing comparisons and when viewing this area especially, one thing keeps jumpimg out at me. The soil color striations are verticle and not horozontal as were clearly illustrated in your actual photos over the canyon. Since I am no computer graphics person perhaps you can enlighten me. Is this due to the limitations of computer graphics or is there another reason for the visual discrepency. Just curious and thought this would be the place to learn a little something .  Thanks .

As I have explained in other threads, the issue is with the model of the landscape and the method Aces designed to cover it.. guess how many primary textures cover the entire grand canyon...  3

At the same time the calls for those 3 primary textures are at random and based on the landclass installed, and, they are not landed with any structure so you can not place the horizontal erosion lines in the textures because they will just get stretched the wrong way anyway.

So the issue is the area needs to be modeled professionally and in the process design that model to call a variety of textures, and, have them land so the erosion lines can be portrayed correctly

The GC is the hardest area to try and get right simply because the method Aces designed to cover it, is so wrong in terms of high res visual design

Smile
