Check your FSISERVER.log file, it should tell you why. It should have displayed the log file automatically.

I will also be posting another beta update this morning for the Italian users to try.

It didn't display automatically because it validated the licence but only after failing to download the data file which was assumed to be corrupt.

I will investigate.

I am using Prepar 3Dv3, OpusFSI v and Windows 10. I have been a user of the Opus series since it was first marketed with no problems. It is a first class addition to my flight sim and I would use no other!
I have been following the development of v5 with interest and have installed the the latest beta but have found that the FSI server control panel is always, when maximised, out of sight under the flight sim display, ie.FS has to be minimised to see it.  Then if I click on any button on the FSI server control panel the FS maximises itself thus obscuring the Opus FSI server panel once more. This makes the Opus v5 unusable on my system. Opus v4 gives me no trouble at all.
I have failed to find any other reports of this behavior so it would seem to indicate that I have in some way committed a "goof"!  I would welcome any suggestions.

OpusFSI v5 gives focus back to the sim but does not maximise it. Place the sim in windowed mode and size to be smaller than the screen.

I believe you are perhaps not aware of the Windows 10 hidden borders in windows. If you want any window to still think it is on the screen area you must position it slightly away from the top and left most areas. Windows 10 employs an invisible grab bar border which all software is unaware of. So position the sim windows slightly away from the edges of the screen.

Once again. OpusFSI does not maximise the sim at all but will return focus to it.

If you care to take time to read the enhancements list for v5 you will be aware that v5 can also be used with the sim in full screen mode. Try using the addon menu to open the OpusFSI Weather dialog and you will see what I mean. You can enter all necessary information into the opus dialogs whilst in full screen mode as they are displayed top most. Of course you don't even need to run the sim to configure it so that's irrelevant.

You can also adjust the properties in ALL relevent opus windows. The Spy window, all WX Report windows, the LWA Map window, all WX maps etc. Not only can they be displayed top most, you can also adjust their opacity.

Far from being unusable it is leaps and bounds better than v4 regarding its operation.

I set my sim in windowed mode, positioned slightly away from the edge of the screen to allow for the invisible grab bar border. Then the sim will not maximise itself. Simply restore itself to the desired position and size.

I then maximise or select full screen mode to fly. Using top most and about 70 percent opacity in the Opus report windows. Works a treat and much better than v4.

Thank you for your suggestions Stephen. I have looked again at my problem bearing in mind your reply to my initial post but unfortunately I have not made any progress.
It seems to be that the FS always takes the focus from Opus v5.  There is no problem if  the FS is not running, I can run the FSI control panel when it is displayed on top of other windows and select any of the keys ie "Weather", "Spy" etc and achieve an instant response. If I then close down Opus, start the FS, select a flight and then start Opus v5 the control panel appears briefly on top of FS as it "validates the licence",then, with that complete ie "unlimited operation" achieved, it minimises to the taskbar.  If I try to bring it up again the panel always appears under the FS display invisible until I minimise the FS to the taskbar. Then, the keys are not selectable as FS still seems to have the focus, indeed, clicking on a key brings up FS again!
On my system at the moment I  cannot use Opus v5 as I cannot even enter a destination or a FL into the weather dialogue!  There must be some v5 relationship as I am having no troubles whatsoever with  FSI v4. I always do operate my FS in the window mode and I did try your suggestion but as you can see, something is still not right.
Sorry to be a pain!!
Brian.

I wasn't talking about the server's main form, that is not topmost as it doesn't need to be.

As I said set your sim in windowed mode, save it like that so that it starts up in windowed mode. Go to full screen mode when ready to fly. Use the addon menu options for v5 to open the weather dialog if needed. Same is true of the camera dialog etc..

You can easily enter the destination and anything else.

I do it ALL the time. But it sounds like you are not starting the sim in windowed mode at all but full screen mode. This is not what I explained above. V5 is considerably better in every respect to v4, if you do the above then all will be ok.

The sim cannot keep focus if you click on a different program. But the latest sim will keep taking back focus if you haven't paused it.

Don't just minimise it. You should pause it first. But sounds like you are still not set up correctly with your sim in Windows 10. Once set, sized, and positioned covering a small footprint on the screen (allowing both the sim and server's form to be displayed in separate areas. The sim should STAY there. Bare in mind my comments above.

Have you reduced the size of your sim so that on start up it only occupies a small area on your screen ?

P3D will always take back focus continuously if you let it. So size it appropriately and click on the caption bar of the OpusFSI server form.

I do it all the time, every day, and it works just fine as expected.

I will look at making all forms and dialogs topmost but only if needed.

You should adopt the above procedure though if you want to use the main OpusFSI form.

Thanks for that.  I have managed to get "Spy" visable and think that I  can now see where the trouble is. Opus is not connecting with the FS and is showing in Spy as a "Link 1 exception 5" error.  This has been covered in this forum before on March 14th and the conclusion reached was that exception 5 = Simconnect version mismatch. As I am reluctant to upgrade to prepar3D v4  at the moment, is it possible that you can let me know where I may find  the Lockheed Martin SimConnect DLL mentioned in that post?
Thanks a lot

Brian.

If you are using P3Dv3 then use the FSX simconnect. Which version of P3D are you using?

It all depends on what version of P3D you are using. We have supplied SimConnect DLLs for the latest v3.4 and v3.3 P3D. P3D v2 uses the Microsoft SimConnect. For other v3 sims you could try the v3.3 or assume its v2, or better still upgrade to v3.4 and take advantage of all the latest P3D fixes and DotNet 4 SimConnect.

I am running Prepar3D v3.2.3 number 16769 with simconnect v.3.2.0.0.
I see in my OpusFSIv5 folder there are two Lockheed Martin.Prepar3D.SimConnect files one of which is denoted as v3.3.dll dated 15/03/2017.  The third is Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll dated 14/12/2016.

I must say that I feel slightly out of my depth at this point in time and an update to Prepar3Dv3.4  is looking more attractive by the minute!  The reason that I am reluctant is that I am rather fearful of backward compatibility problems with my existing multiple addons.

Maybe I worry too much?

Brian.

LM doesn't make past SimConnect DLLs available. I have no idea if v3.2 was dotNet4 but I think you may have to run OpusFSI assuming a P3D v2 compatibility. So run as FSISERVER P3D2, this will assume DotNet 2 Microsoft SimConnect which should work just fine as that's all OpusFSI v4 uses.

The v3.3 DLL we supply was provided by a user who didn't want to upgrade to v3.4. Apparently that works in place of the v3.4. But I have a sneaky suspicion that v3.2 was too early for many of the v3.4 features to work.

It is awkward. It doesn't help that LM doesn't make an msi available for SimConnect, nor provide previous versions.

Try the Microsoft SimConnect, installing our msi if needed then run as if it's a v2 P3D.

You could try emailing me your v3.2 DLL and I will give it a go and see whether it's compatible with our v5 DotNet 2 or 4 variants.

MS and LM SimConnect DLLs ...

We currently supply the Microsoft SimConnect msi install file and its SimConnect DLL for use with all older dotNet2 sims. The Microsoft SimConnect is the former standard dotNet 2 variety which can be used with all dotNet2 sim types and versions. This is used in our v5 software whenever you run the software as,

Selecting the dotNet 2 SlimDX and SimConnect mode ...

FSISERVER.EXE FSX
FSISERVER.EXE STEAM
FSISERVER.EXE P3D2

The following will select the dotNet 4 SlimDX and SimConnect modes ...

FSISERVER P3D
FSISERVER P3D3

At the moment the above should only be used with P3D v3.3 and v3.4. For all other (older) P3D version 2s and 3s use the P3D2 program argument to select the dotNet2 version.

Next Beta/Release ...

In the next beta/release I will be supplying both Lockheed Martin SimConnect v3.3 and v3.4 DLLs.

If using P3D v3.3, the LM v3.3 SimConnect DLL should be copied and renamed by the user to create the required Lockheed Martin SimConnect DLL (the '_v3.3' having been removed from the filename).

N.B. LM do not make these libraries compatible so the v3.4 DLL cannot be used if you have P3D v3.3 installed.

The next beta/release will not overwrite any user's LM SimConnect DLL so the above user actions will not be undone.

The FSISERVER and FSICLIENT start up programs will automatically copy and rename the v3.4 DLL if no LM SimConnect DLL exists.

In the future there may also be v3.5, v3.6, v4.0 variants etc.. So I think the time has come to allow the actual version to be specified to the FSISERVER and FSICLIENT start up programs, then simply let them prepare everything. I am considering doing that in the next OpusFSI beta/release.

In this proposed upgrade, the P3D argument will always identify the very latest P3D version. In addition,  FSISERVER and FSICLIENT start up arguments P3D30, P3D31, P3D32, P3D33, and P3D34 will select the specific P3D version, versions 3.0 through to v3.4 respectively. The start up programs will then do the rest and prepare all appropriate DLLs, running the dotNet2 FSX or dotNet4 P3D programs as required.

So in future I propose ...

Selecting the dotNet 2 SlimDX and SimConnect mode ...

FSISERVER.EXE FSX
FSISERVER.EXE STEAM
FSISERVER.EXE P3D2
FSISERVER.EXE P3D30
FSISERVER.EXE P3D31
FSISERVER.EXE P3D32

The following will select the dotNet 4 SlimDX and SimConnect modes ...

FSISERVER P3D
FSISERVER P3D33
FSISERVER P3D34

I have just posted the 5.00.12 Release Version (same as the Beta). Now working on adding an option for the Auto Wx Report During GRIB Download allowing users to specify their preference for either the OpusFSI Wx Report, the OpusFSI 'in sim' Wx Report, or None.

Sorry to say I dont understand wich setting that could auto hide or not show this window.
Besides from this, the software is the best it have ever been regarding to generate weather. So simple, yet so many features for those who need it.
I simply save my route from PFPX to P3d folder, then load this flight via the top menu without pausing the sim.
Would it be smarter to save it to another folder Steph?
