GOOGLE CHROME - FALSE POSITIVE IN GEX UPDATES

HOW TO CIRCUMVENT

This issue only effects Google Chrome. It does NOT effect IE or Firefox.

Google has found it in their infinite wisdom to block downloads of EXE and other files based on false positive scans. This issue is effecting long time legitimate websites all over the internet and is becoming a hot topic behind the scenes with legitimate websites all over the net.

Google is falsely labeling legitimate and long trusted developers and websites they run as hazards. The issue may begin to effect many Flight1 downloads in the near future, not just GEX/GEP3D related downloads.

When you click CHECK FOR UPDATES in the GEX/GEP3D interface the web check opens and if there are updates for your system they will be offered to you with a link. Clicking the links in Google Chrome can result in a block and false positive warning the files are infected, this is utterly FALSE

I don't use Chrome. Its not faster, safer nor better than IE.

If you use Chrome and come across this issue between now and the time this blows up with Google you can do the following:

WORKAROUND IN CHROME:

How to turn off phishing & malware protection

The following steps will turn of phishing and malware warnings, as well as download warnings.

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome menu .
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Show advanced settings.
  4. Under "Privacy," uncheck the box "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites."

Once complete, close Chrome and open the GEX/GEP3D interface. Click the CHECK FOR UPDATES button and obtain your updates.

When finished you can (if you wish) re-enable the virtual paranoia security feature again by repeating the steps above and place a check in  "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites."

OR

If the above fails,

TEMPORARILY MAKE IE THE DEFAULT BROWSER

a. Start IE, on the TOOLS menu select INTERNET OPTIONS

b. Click the PROGRAMS tab and in the top section 'Default Web Browser' click the MAKE DEFAULT button.

c. Close the browser and run the GEX/GEP3D interface. Click the CHECK FOR UPDATES button. IE will launch instead of Chrome. Obtain all of your update patches and save them to the desktop. Close IE and the GEX/GEP3D interface and follow any directions presented to install your patches.
