PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST
GEX Africa and the Middle East is an exceptionally large scenery texture package, nearly 4 gigabytes of data when installed, and will provide users the following features: Complete coverage of the Middle East and Africa from Pakistan to Cape Town. Enhanced textures to assist in rendering clear visuals as low as 250-500ft. High volume autogen layout with optimizations for maximum performance. Updates GEX Europe in the southern regions when installed with GEX EU. Major upgrade for GEX North America users when installed with GEX NA. Synchronizes all GEX regions. No texture switching between regions. 1m/pixel - 1024x1024 Textures - No excessive resolution to render. Full texture support for SceneryTech and Xclass landclass products. Automated file backup system with merged region backup storage. Sync patches provided for UTX USA\Canada\UT Alaska and Europe. 2D enhancements produce simulated 3D depth in textures. Textures derived from licensed Arial and Satellite imagery. All seasons including snowy winters and mountain terrain. FSX tree render issue addressed in autogen annotation. Realistic custom designed night lighting textures. Improved default FSX road night lighting. Highly detailed aerial views. Natural seasonal blending. GEX Africa/Middle East works as a stand alone product without any other GEX area installed. However! If you use another GEX region this product requires GEX North America version 1.09 and/or GEX Europe v2.0 (or above) installed into FSX to use this product. If you have not already done so, please update your other GEX regions before installing the interface options of this package. The HELP manual explains the process or follow the process posted below should you need to update other GEX regions first. The manual for the product (interface HELP button) covers everything below. We are repeating the important information in this thread to be sure everyone is informed For those who use GEX North America and/or GEX Europe Your GEX NA product version must be v1.09 or above and GEX EU version must be v2.0 or above to install and use this product. Africa and the Middle East not only significantly upgrades the target region it provides a texture bridge between the GEX North America and GEX Europe products in shared region texture matching. There is only one install stipulation with AFME when using other GEX (and UTX) areas; Make sure this products (AFME) interface options are installed last after all other GEX (and UTX) region products have been installed and updated. Make sure both the GEX MAIN and the UTX options that apply to your setup have been run/installed from each region interface before running the Africa and the Middle East interface. If you do not have either or both GEX NA and GEX EU and later add one of those regions (and/or add a UTX region with GEX) , simply install the newly purchased products and then run the GEX interface options for that region. Once finished, open the GEX AFME interface and re-install the options. Its that simple! In a nutshell and to sum it up... If your current installed GEX NA version is 1.09 or above, and, if you use UTX USA/Canada or UT Alaska, and, those UTX products are all up to date, and, you have already run the GEX NA interface options for the UTX products you have installed.. you are ready to go with AFME If your current installed GEX EU version is 2.0 or above, and, if you use UTX Europe, and, UTX Europe is up to date, and, you have already run the GEX EU interface option for the UTX Europe product.. you are ready to go with AFME! If your current GEX/UTX products are installed and up to date you do not need to re-run any other interface... Just install AFME, the AFME interface options... and GO The above examples were simply a checklist! If You Need To Update Your GEX Product – (any GEX version) You have 2 options to update.. use the update system or install the full product To check for updates and/or patches follow these 4 simple steps: 1. Open the interface for the GEX area and click the “Updates” button. 2. You will be presented with a new window which displays information about your current GEX version. You will also be presented with any announcements and patches available for your version of GEX 3. Click the link presented for a patch and log into the Flight1 members area following the directions presented. Once logged in, download the patch to a location of your choice. 4. Close the Interface and run the patch installer. Once complete, open the interface and verify the new version listed at the top. Install the full products... NOTE: If your version of GEX is more than 1 revision old, due to the size of the patches we highly suggest re-downloading the latest full installer package from Flight1 over updating through the interface in order to reduce download time. Your proof of purchase information from the original GEX product (NA or EU) will allow you to install the latest full version. Below are direct links to the latest full GEX NA and EU region installers. Follow the directions to download and install. Be sure to uninstall the older version of the GEX region first. GEX North America v1.09 - http://www.flight1.com/download.asp?id=gexusacan GEX Europe v2.0 - http://www.flight1.com/download.asp?id=gexeurope Using the full Flight1 installers does not require the use of the update login system. FSGenesis is releasing mesh products for the Middle East. You can obtain those mesh packages at the FSGenesis website. GEX will work with any mesh or landclass product that is designed to work with default FSX. NOTE: GEX AFME MAKES A SMALL SCENERY ELEMENT CHANGE TO FSX IN THE GIZA AREA OF CAIRO, EGYPT. YOU WILL SEE A SINGLE SCENERY LIBRARY REBUILD ON FSX BOOT THE FIRST TIME FSX IS RUN AFTER INSTALLING AFME INTERFACE OPTIONS. THAT REBUILD WILL TAKE PLACE ONLY ONCE AND THERE ARE NO SCENERY LIBRARY ENTRIES. The following locations will be directly effected by (but not completely covered) if North America, Europe and Africa and the Middle East GEX regions are installed as a complete set: Asia, including India Australia Central America Mexico New Zealand South America Tropics, both Atlantic and Pacific We sincerely thank you for your continued support. Anthony and I hope you enjoy the Ground Environment X Africa and the Middle East Edition. As an added bonus, with the purchase of Africa and the Middle East all AFME customers will get a 20% discount off the next GEX region release. And Thank You Again For Your Support! The GEX Team! DOWNLOAD GEX AFRICA and the MIDDLE EAST 1. Select a server. 2. Download the 2 files (.exe and .000) and place them in a folder on the desktop. You may want to use a download manager as these files are large. 3. Run the .exe file and follow the directions for the purchase wrapper. Primary Server: ============================================== Alternate Server: Additional Notes: Just a FYI .... if you are using the ENB bloom mod with GEX Africa and the Middle East, it really does not work that well in the dryer regions of the planet because the FSX render engine does not take into account the far brighter and more intense sunlight that appears in these location. The ENB mod will overdarken the tiles in these locations because they are made to reflect light correctly and they are sensitive to lighting changes. They will darken far more than they should with ENB enabled so you may need to adjust [COLORCORRECTION] DarkeningAmountDay=xx to a far lower number than you would use elsewhere in the world, or not use the bloom mod at all in the desert and drier/brighter regions. The issue is the FSX render engine does not understand 'brighter tropics' and Aces tried to hide that with completely washed out and over-brightened desert, savanna and mid east texture sets. You can also adjust the monitor brightness control a bit in the driver to compensate for the FSX lighting too its really a balancing act between ENB and driver control brightness that can be tricky to get right. It would have been great if FSX understood 'brighter sun' but it doesn't just like it does not understand 'dark night'. Also!
