General Startup Procedure for The SkyDecks Boeing 737-NG Panel, v3.0:

(Assuming that the engines are off, all electrical is off, all fuel pump swtitches and engine valves are in the "OFF" position, and all pack and engine bleed switches and isolation valve are also in the "OFF" position as well. Otherwise adjust for your situation.)

1.  Turn on the Main Battery.
2.  Select either of the Left Main fuel pump switches to the "ON" position.
3.  Select the APU switch to the "START" position.  Monitor the APU Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge for stabilization.
4.  With the APU fully powered up, select the APU Bleed switch to the "ON" position to provide pneumatic air to the bleed system.
5.  Select the Isolation Valve switch to the "ON" position.  This will open the pneumatic duct for APU Bleed-air to the Engine 2 start valve.
6.  Turn on any of the Right Side Fuel pumps.
7.  Close the overhead, and select "Shift + 4" to call up the throttle stack.
8.  Select the Eng2 starter knob to the "Ground" position.  Start valve Open light will illuminate for Eng2.
8.  Monitor Eng2 N2 (make sure the secondary engine indications are visible). At around 19-20% N2, turn on the right side engine valve to the "IDLE" position.
9.  Open the overhead again, and turn the Isolation valve to the "OFF" position.
10. Right side fuel is already selected for the APU.
11. Close the overhead.
12. Select the Eng1 starter knob to the "Ground" position.  Start Valve Open light will illuminate for Eng1.
13. Monitor Eng1 N2.  At around 19-20% N2, turn on the left side engine valve to the "IDLE" position.
14. Turn the APU Bleed Valve to the "OFF" position.
15. With both engines running, you may now turn the APU off by selecting the "OFF" position of the APU switch.
16. Turn on both Eng1 and Eng2 Bleed air valves and select packs on if desired.
17. Select the fuel pumps to your desired tank.  The center tank is used first in most all conditions.
18. Turn on both Eng1 and Eng2 Hydraulic switches.
19. Turn Flight Control switches on, and when needed, turn on Spoilers switches.  Yaw damper as necessary.

Note:  The Engine bleed valves may be used to start the opposite engine.  Turn off the APU bleed valve to perform this.

Olli sent me this in an email attachment.  It's a bit more condensed and uses r/w procedures.  Thanks Oliver!

A refined start up flow, simplified real proceedure.

1. Battery on, verify electric hydraulic B pump switch is off
2. APU bleed off if not, verify engine bleed switches off
3. Aft. fuel pump no. 1 on, low pressure lights verify off
4. Apu switch on
5. Apu Gen off light must be on
6. Apu gen switches both to on, verify transfer bus light, bus off light, standbypower light going off
7. 1 minute pause until hook up the pneumatics,
8. Apu bleed air on, isolation valve auto, left or right pack auto or high
9. Check landig gear lever down, check flap lever agree with flaps position indicator
10. Both engine bleed switches on, normally left on
11. Turn on all fuel pump switches
12. Hydraulic A pump switches off, hydraulic B pump switches on
13. Beacon on
14. Both pack switches off, packs off pressure goes up
15. Isolation valve auto, check
16. Verify duct pressure 30 psi
17. Left engine starter switch to ground
18. Verify duct pressure decreases
19. Hydraulics press A stays zero
20. Oil pressure increases
21. N2 25% - Engine start lever to idle, keep fingers on the lever until you can verify N1 rotation
22. EGT increases within 10 seconds
23. At N2 46% starter switch cutoff, automatically, verify
24. 17. to 21. for the right engine
25. Both engine gen to on, verify amber bus off lights are off
26. Hydraulic A pump switches to on
27. Apu off
28. Pitot heat switches on
29. Engine de-ice on, when conditions are given
30. Both pack switches auto
31. Isolation valve auto, check
32. Both engine bleed switches to on, verify
33. Apu bleed switch off, verify dual bleed light is going off
34. FLT/Ground switch to FLT, can find that here  (please elaborate Olli?)

Kevin Can you get one of your 737 guys to put together a total checklist, including the proper start procedures. ( That would apply to this panel) That would be super dude!

I love the panel. It's a toll on my Frame rates but hey Ill live with it for now. Im gonna get me one of those super duper computers for my 53rd birthday.  Im gonna spare no pain,,,Hehehehe.....

With your new way of building its hard to add guages like taxi speed to the panel. I guess I can build a seperate window.

Only applies to the analogue Cabin Pressure Control System, not the Digital Cabin Pressure Control System (DCPCS) fitted on all NGs and some classics.

Check Speedbrake lever down,throttles down,  landig gear lever down, check flap lever agree with flaps position indicator, parking brake set, engine start lever cutoff, electric hydraulic switches A and B to off, all 4 low pressure lights should be on, engine hydraulic switches A and B normally left on, Engine starter switches off, fuelcheck
10. Verify both apu generators are on
11. Turn on all fuel pump switches
12. Both hydraulic A pump switches off, both hydraulic B pump switches on, verify low pressure lights are off on B
13. Beacon on
14. Both pack switches off, packs off pressure goes up
15. Isolation valve auto, check
16. Verify duct pressure 30 psi
17. Left engine starter switch to ground
18. Verify duct pressure decreases
19. Hydraulics press A stays zero
20. Oil pressure increases
21. N2 25% - Engine start lever to idle, keep fingers on the lever until you can verify N1 rotation
22. EGT increases within 10 seconds
23. At N2 56% starter switch cutoff, automatically, verify
24. 17. to 21. for the right engine

29. Engine de-ice on, when conditions are given
30. Both pack switches auto
31. Isolation valve auto, check
32. Both engine bleed switches to on, verify
33. Apu bleed switch off, verify dual bleed light is going off

I revised my list for some failures and extended it bit.

Here's a (hopefully) idiot-proof guide to getting the plane from dead to ready-for-takeoff. It represents the real-world but is relevant to what I can see from the screenshots of your panel (I haven't got it yet, sorry)

Cold, dark cockpit:

Battery on
Apu start
Apu on bus when available


Panel scan - this is designed to be a "flow" that goes down each of the 5 the overhead panel columns (left to right), along the bottom of the overhead panel, along the MCP, across the main panel and then down the centre console:

Overhead panel:

Yaw damper on
Navigation transfer and display switches normal (auto for source selector)
All 4 wing fuel pumps on
Centre fuel pumps on if any fuel in centre tanks (this isn't real-world but we won't be worrying about fuel tanks exploding in FS2004!)
Galley power on
Emergency exit lights armed
Passenger signs on
Window heat on
Pitot heat off
Anti-ice off
All 4 hydraulic pumps on
Recirc fan on
Engine bleeds on
Apu bleed on
Isolation valve switch open
L + R packs on
Set cruise alt in pressurisation panel
Set land alt in pressurisation panel (elevation of destination airfield to the nearest 50ft)
Position lights on
Logo lights on at night
All other lights off
Engine start selector to either ignition left or right (should alternate between flights but not relevant to FS2004)

Main panel:

Flight director switch on
Heading bug to runway heading
Altitude to 9900 (unless already cleared to a level - i.e. set what you like)
Autobrake RTO
Reset fuel used counter

Centre console:

Set radios etc for departure


Engine start:

Anti-collision light on
Both pack switches off
Engine 2 start switch to GRD
at 25% N2, raise start lever
Engine 1 start switch to GRD
at 25% N2, raise start lever


After start:

Both engine generators on bus
Pitot heat on
Isolation valve switch auto
R pack on
Apu bleed off
L pack on
Apu off (should have an automatic timer to switch itself off after 1 minute)
Check recall - should be blank


Before takeoff:

Set takeoff flap (if not sure, flap 5)
Set trim (if not sure, about 4 units)
Arm autothrottle
Turn on strobes
Turn on landing lights
Turn on runway turnoff lights
Engine start switches to cont
Transponder on

The new panel looks great but it's just too much work for me. I'm sticking with ver. 2.0. I like the "ctl E" option. All this work gives me a headache. Precisely why I wont buy any addon with an FMC that requies you to push this, wait, push that, wait, click those, wait, click that....I'm lazy I guess. I have limited time and I like to just strap in and go. If I wanted real, I would have become a pilot.

After using the panel for awhile, it gets faster. It still takes me a little bit but I can tell that it goes more smoothly the more I use it, like anything else. The default 737 is still available, although with a couple of addons one can make it somewhat better. Of all the 737NG panels I have seen and used, SkyDeck's is done very well, and, the support is superb.

I'll be another one sticking with the old panel. All this procedure stuff isn't for me...but I'm sure they guys who like it will have fun with the new panel.

Sure...

Just start the sim with the engines on.  Everything will be set to go.

Really...  I hear people tell me that the panels were too simple.  They want more funtionality.  So I make it.  Now it's too complex...  and really it isn't complex in the least bit.  I can have this aircraft up and running in less than two minutes from cold and dark.

I cannot please everyone...  I do try, but it's impossible.  This is the reason for having the aircraft up and running when you start the sim with the engines on.  You'll simply have to control the fuel valves and that's it.  You can still disable systems if you start throwing switches, so be careful there.

Really, Kevin, I wasn't complaining. I was just stating that the procedure-oriented panels weren't for me. I would have been perfectly happy with a patch to fix that warning light when under 40% fuel remaining.

The suggestion you make for starting the simwith them running won't work, as I usually sit at the gate for 15-20 mins, then start the engines. But when I go to start, I don't want to go through a checklist. I know, not realistic...but I deal with enough procedures and lists at work, and this is supposed to be a relaxing hobby for me.

Your panel is fantastic, and I admire the work you have put into it.

Can I safely assume then, that the way to totally shut down the 737 is to do things totally reversed of what's written up there?? Y'know, I think I've read a whole bunch of startup procedures on different airplanes but never one for shutdown....in detail.

Oh man, do I love this panel though. Getting used to it after so much funzies with the CRJ is kinda tough though and, add to that, the 737 flies all kinds of different from that li'l plane. Hoo boy.

You've got brand-spanking new checks and reference files installed within the aircraft package.  Bring up your knee board and then click the checklist page.  You're going to like what you see... I guarantee it.

When and if you have a kid, the li'l creature is probably gonna come with an extensive checklist, a profusely illustrated manual and really great graphics!

Any way to print those checklists?  I believe the reference files are at the end of the manual, but the checklists would be nice to have in hard copy, at leats for me.

Yes.  You can find the files in your SkyDecks folder inside Flight Simulator.

Go to: Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\SkyDecks\...then

737-NG-SkyDecks-Check.htm

737-NG-SkyDecks-Ref800.htm

You can print them as .html files that way, or convert them to word documents.

I have everything printed out but in my kneeboard, checklist, there is nothing. And, I also have the low oil pressure lights when N1 is below 40. Is there anything I can do on my end to to fix these? Thanks.Smile

Larry... You don't have the checks and refs installed in your aircraft folder.  I can tell because you're using different flight dynamics.  How do I know this?  The low oil pressure light is because you're using Baumann's "updated" flight dynamic files.  The oil pressure parameter is incorrect.  The parameter was corrected with the new livery package I put together.  You can add the Southwest scheme to the livery pack if you'd like, using the FDE's in that file, and then you'll have the checks and refs set up as well.

Just add the Southwest livery to the pack and edit the aircraft.cfg to include the new paint in the [fltsim.xx] section.  Hope this helps.

Kevin. The suggested aircraft, Delta etc., works fine, checklist and idle N1, it is the VA I belong too that is wrong. I thought it was exactly the same one, but like you say the FDE's are not the same. I will work on that. I haven't installed the Southwest livery yet. Here is a pic of my VA's 738, with SD Panel.Wink Thanks.

This checklist I made from an existing 737-800 checklist from one website, took the procedures from two other authors from this posting, watched and put down checklist/procedures from several 737NG pilots on youtube.com, and put the following together. Take a look, if there is something wrong, something out of sequence, please let me know. The following is not lined up properly but if you would like a copy let me know. The checklist I have tested and works for the skydeck's 737NG Panel. I like realistic checklists/procedures--somthing to follow step by step. It may be too much for some, not for others. Thanks to those who posted the procedures for what I put together down below.
