The FSX server and client programs will automatically abort on start up if the Prepar3D simulator is active.

The current specified Destination is now listed in both the OpusFSI METAR and GRIB text reports.

With exception to the Flight Plan Report, all OpusFSI Weather Reports will now display a 'Destination Not Specified' error on the second line of the display.

The Weather Preferences dialog now contains the warning 'Enabling the Low Overcast Effect and Volumetric Fog Effect in Prepar3D can result in reducing the intended surface visibility'.

Two separate ButtKicker Control programs are now provided. The FSXBKCTRL.EXE program is used on FSX and FSX-SE (dotNet 2) systems, and the P3DBKCTRL.EXE program is used on Prepar3D (dotNet 4) systems. These control programs are activated automatically by the OpusFSI FSX and P3D server programs.

On a key press, the Spy window will now show both the received Key Input number and the associated Key Sequence string.

All Live Camera Control (LCC) movements are now assumed to be with respect to the current eye point axis just the same as in the previous version 4 software. Increased the scaling of all translational LCC movements in non-VC view modes.

OpusFSI 'Prototype' Beta Version 5.00.6 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSI_v500_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSI_v5 installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

The FSISERVER and FSICLIENT start up programs now attempt to identify the OpusFSI_v5 installed path in all operating modes.

The FSISERVER and FSICLIENT start up programs now accept P3D2 and P3D3 program arguments specifying Prepar3D versions 2 and 3 simulator types respectively. In Prepar3D version 2 mode (requiring dotNet 2 SimConnect) the start up programs will activate the FSX server or client program. In all other Prepar3D version 3+ modes (requiring dotNet 4 SimConnect) the usual P3D server or client is activated.

The Configure dialogs in the FSXSERVER and FSXCLIENT programs will now allow a Prepar3D Version 2 simulator type to be selected and its installation folder to be specified or browsed for.

This beta corrects a problem importing version 4 Camera Definition Files (CDFs).

Live Camera Control (LCC) will now read and factor in the current eye point position prior to moving the eye point. This feature is only applicable to VC modes on P3D systems with the OpusPDK Interface active. In all other cases, the current eye point position cannot be determined.

The Australian and International site effects have been updated with thirteen new Australian sites and three new International sites added. Many thanks to Matt Hicks (aka singletracker) for providing these effects.

OpusFSI 'Prototype' Beta Version 5.00.7 is now available for download on our website.

The FSISERVER and FSICLIENT CFG data files will not be loaded if the file's version post dates the current OpusFSI_v5 version. This is to prevent corruption of the CFG data when previous versions are re-installed.

Corrected a problem that transferred a client's updated CAM file to the old OpusFSI folder instead of the new OpusFSI_v5 folder.

In FSX and FSX Steam modes, during the initial weather update this beta will force the 'in sim' Lower Atmospheric Report onto the FSX screen to let you know about the GRIB download progress. This will not cause FSX to minimise when operating in its 'flawed' Full Screen mode. This FSX bug has been corrected in the Lockheed Martin Prepar3D code so the improved OpusFSI Weather Reports will continue to be used in Prepar3D.

This version is identical to the OpusFSI Beta Version 5.00.8 so there's no need to upgrade your prototype betas. Licensed Version 4 users may still use the Version 5 software free of charge whilst the beta development is ongoing and new Version 5 features are added. This is expected to continue into April/May time when a discounted OpusFSI Version 5 Upgrade licence option will be available for a limited period.

The OpusFSI Live Weather Engine provides the most detailed, accurate, and realistic weather available within the simulator. However, we have added an OpusAS Interface for those wishing to use ActiveSky weather. This interface can be used to factor in the AS 'AmbientTurbulence' and 'InCloud' Bootstrap DLL variables within the OpusFSI DHM (Dynamic Head Movements) at times when the OpusFSI Live Weather Engine is disabled and the AS Bootstrap DLL (as_btstrp.dll) is active. See the 'OpusAS_Setup.txt' file for details of how to enable and remove the OpusAS Interface.

Corrected a problem that prevented the dotNet 2 client program's (FSXCLIENT.EXE) simulator mode from being set to anything other than 'No Connection' (NONE) mode.

Modified the OpusFSI.DLL to ensure full FSISERVER.log file is output and added details of FSISERVER.EXE program to the version information.

Included the Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect DLL library and MSI installation files along with the LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect DLLs for both the current P3D version 3.4 and the previous P3D version 3.3 simulators.

Download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

The Weather Download dialog now contains an 'Automated Wx Report' setting consisting of three radio buttons. Select 'None' to disable the automated Wx (GRIB Download) report completely, select 'OpusFSI Report' for the usual OpusFSI Wx report window, or select 'Simulator Report' for the 'in sim' Wx report window.

The program arguments for the 'start up' FSISERVER.EXE and FSICLIENT.EXE programs have changed to be more specific in selecting the correct dotNet 2 or P3D dotNet 4 operating modes.

The following arguments will select the 'dotNet 2' SlimDX and Microsoft SimConnect modes ...

FSISERVER.EXE FSX
FSISERVER.EXE STEAM
FSISERVER.EXE P3D2
FSISERVER.EXE P3D30
FSISERVER.EXE P3D31
FSISERVER.EXE P3D32

The following arguments will select the Prepar3D 'dotNet 4' SlimDX and LockheedMartin SimConnect modes ...

FSISERVER.EXE P3D
FSISERVER.EXE P3D3
FSISERVER.EXE P3D33
FSISERVER.EXE P3D34

Any other argument will assume the last saved operating mode for the FSISERVER and FSICLIENT programs. All Prepar3D 'dotNet 4' modes will copy the relevant LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect_v3.x.dll into the OpusFSI LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll prior to launching the P3D server or client programs.

ButtKicker control should now force a reset of the landing mode on completion of landing and rollout.

Release version marking the end of the version 5 prototype and trial period.

Both OpusFSI_v5 Flight1 and Upgrade Purchase.exe wrapper files are now available.

The OpusFSI_v5_Flight1_Purchase.exe wrapper is only applicable to people wishing to purchase the v5 software or re activate a current v5 installation.

The OpusFSI_v5_Upgrade_Purchase.exe wrapper is only applicable to licensed version 4 users wishing to purchase the v4 to v5 upgrade.

If you are a current OpusFSI_v5 (version 5) licensed user, simply use the OpusFSI v5 Demo/Upgrade link further down the Downloads page and install the downloaded OpusFSI_v5.msi file.

This release version is a mandatory (free) upgrade for all current licensed v5 users. All previous OpusFSI Versions 5.0 software will soon be invalidated. The previous 5.0 software allowed licensed version 4 users to try out the new v5 product during a prototype and trial period. This period is now coming to an end and an upgrade option has been provided for all version 4 users.

N.B.

The OpusFSI_v5_Upgrade_Purchase.exe wrapper file is used to purchase the discounted Version 4 to Version 5 Upgrade licence. This Upgrade licence can only be purchased by existing OpusFSI (Version 4) users who up to now have been able to use the v5 software free of charge during its prototype and trial period. Do not attempt to activate this licence using your current OpusFSI key file. After purchase and installing the Version 5.10 software in your OpusFSI_v5 folder the server program will check your Upgrade licence and ensure you have a valid v4 licence installed. Do not delete your v4 licence file, it is needed at the moment to validate the Upgrade.

Added a P3D4 program argument which at the moment is equivalent to the P3D and P3D34 arguments. The FSICLIENT start up program now processes the NONE argument to force 'No Connection' mode and activate the dotNet 4 P3DCLIENT.EXE client program.

Weather updates will no longer force a view mode change unless an OpusFSI Observer View is selected on the display. This means all Observer type views should be defined and selected through OpusFSI.

The OpusFSI Volumetric Fog setting is only adjusted automatically if the server can read the Prepar3D.CFG file in the user's AppData Roaming Prepar3D vX folder.

The Max Upper Visibility Limit can now be specified as a value between 80km (50 miles) and 240km (150 miles). A checkbox is provided to enabled/disabled the reducing effect, when disabled the Upper Limit will be set to 0, all values less than 80km will disable the effect. This effect can be adjusted to match the Max Cloud Draw Distance within the sim's Weather settings. Note, changing the setting mid-flight may not have much of an effect if users have the OpusFSI Visibility Smoothing enabled.

The FSISERVER.EXE and FSICLIENT.EXE start up programs have been enhanced to accept an optional User CFG Filename as a program argument. This argument can be specified before or after the sim type argument. When specified the User CFG File will replace the current FSISERVER.CFG or FSICLIENT.CFG file. This option allows users to create various OpusFSI server and client configurations. The configurations can be specific to different sim versions for example, or different flight modes (e.g. the preferred weather options for VFR flying etc.). To create a new configuration simply edit the options in OpusFSI, quit OpusFSI, then copy/rename the current CFG file, finally append the name of your CFG file to the start up program.

Improved multi-monitor display handling. All form positioning now checks against the Windows 'virtual screen' size if that is reported larger than the Windows 'primary screen' width and height. The screen sizes (primary and Virtual) for your system are displayed in the initial Spy window information of the server programs. This beta is only intended for users with multiple screen systems.

Corrected a problem handling the new Max Upper Visibility Limit in FSX and Steam sim modes.

Improved the Live Weather engines destination weather checks and included automatic correction procedures whenever the weather checks fail as a result of unknown conditions or anomalies within the sim. These faults usually occur when flying in very mountainous areas or when flying to small aerodromes, or both. These improvements can result in needing far fewer weather updates to ensure accurate weather conditions at your destination.

Download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

Added licence file information to the FSISERVER.log file content.

Reduced the frequency of any periodic weather refreshes needed to correct the destination weather inside the sim. No refreshes occur when the destination is more than 240km (150 miles) away. Within 240km (150 miles) the refresh frequency is set to a maximum of 10 minutes, this is reduced to 5 minutes once within 160km (100 miles) of the destination.

OpusFSI Beta Version 5.20.7 is now available for download on our website.

Corrected a problem with initialising the map position when any small footprint Wx Maps are displayed.

General improvements to the Dynamic Weather Theme (DWT) generation and injection.

Improved the Live Weather destination checks and weather injection procedures once within 256km (160 miles) of the destination. Destination weather checks and updates are automatically suspended when within 48km (30 miles) of the destination. The destination checks and actions no longer require full weather reloads, updates or refreshes and hence eliminate the resulting cloud shifts. Once within 256km (160 miles), and beyond 48km (30 miles), the destination weather is checked every 60 seconds until it is seen to be 'Actual', after which it is monitored every 5 minutes. If within range, the destination weather is always checked 10 seconds after any new full weather injection.

N.B.

Unfortunately there are several bugs in the P3D code which prevent the same FSX type recovery procedures being implemented when flying to destinations other than 'existing sim weather stations'. At these locations in P3D a full weather injection is the only possibility. These bugs have been reported to Lockheed Martin and as soon as they fix them we will implement the full solution in P3D.

We are still considering adding a 'Disable Updates When Destination Actual' option which has the possibility of disabling all further weather changes once within 256km (160 miles) of the destination whilst the 'in sim' weather at the destination is seen to be 'Actual'.

I am also investigating improvements to the Selective Update mode (only possible in FSX at the moment due to the P3D bugs).

OpusFSI Beta Version 5.20.9 is now available for download on our website.

Download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

Modified the destination check conditions and weather update pre-generation conditions. It is no longer possible for the destination weather checks to be disabled due to a pending weather update, nor is it possible for any weather update to be suspended within the software indefinitely. If an ideal time of update is not found within 3 minutes the update is initiated without further delay.

The Dynamic Weather Theme (DWT) size has been increased from 640 x 640 miles to cover an area of 800 x 800 miles. The maximum allowed weather update time and distance has been increased from 60 minutes and 320km (200 miles) up to 120 minutes and 320km (200 miles). The default weather update parameters are now set at 60 minutes and 240km (150 miles).

The 'Disable Destination Checks on Approach' option in the Weather dialog has now been changed to a 'Disable Update when Destination Actual' option. This new option will be implemented in a subsequent beta or release version.

Regards
Stephen Smile

P.S.

We are now looking at implementing the above new Disable Update.. option, looking to implement a new layer of visibility smoothing within the weather theme (needed as the local P3D VF is rendered globally by the sim, hence will change suddenly), and seeing if the new Max Upper Visibility setting can be rendered more appropriately within P3D.
