I just bought FS Panel Studio.
I bought it to install an ice detection gauge. My "add gauge," is greyed out. I have the full version, not the demo.

Any ideas ? anyone?

JFriz

Edit-- running W7, and FSX I have spend hours looking at forums, and the manual.

Looking through the forms, Flight1 does not respond.
Sorry I bought this now, it is useless for me.

Do you have a panel.cfg file open? If there is no panel opened, the add gauge is greyed out.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems. I've been using FS Panel Studio for the past twelve years and have had no real problems with it at all.

Are you trying to use the little "gauge face icon"? It's never grayed out under any conditions. The only icons that are grayed out are the three on the left side, and those only if no gauge is selected on the displayed panel: Delete - Swap - Cut (selected gauge).

Just for information, "Flight1" has no responsibility for answering questions here. This forum is provided for the author of FS Panel Studio to support his own product...

...which to be honest has been almost non-existent for the past several years.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the reply.
Do you mean in my FSX panel.cfg ?     or in the FS Panel Studio ?

I got it to work in the demo copy, but it said "add gauge" function does not work in demo, that's when I went ahead and bought it.
Jerry

edit. I never could get it to work again in the reg. version

You need the panel.cfg, from the plane you are working on, opened in the FS Panel Studio. You will then have the add gauge option.

Jerry, you will have to 'unzip' that file before you can 'install' it of course.

By the way, although you can put .gau and .cab "gauge files" in an aircraft's ..\panel folder, the one "gottcha" of FSPS is that at least one .cab type file must be in the ..\panel folder before the option to browse to the "panel" folder is available.

Yikes! You have unzipped the file into the ..\panel folder. You should have unzipped it into its own folder, such as ..\panel\ice10 or similar.

At this point, my only suggestion would be to create such a sub-folder and then move all of the indicated files into that new sub-folder. You should then be able to install the "gauge" using FS Panel Studio.

On the other hand, maybe you should actually open and read the two files "readme.txt" and "icing.txt"...

Hi Bill,
The first time I did unzip the folder into its own. The readme me is very brief, easy if you know what you are doing, I suppose.

Thanks for the help, I'll try some more now, will let you know how it goes.

Hi Bill,
Another screenshot, not sure if this shows enough for you.
All I did was extract the zip folder to my FSX gauges folder.
Then, I opened FS Panel Studio, [add a gauge still greyed out]
I was able to see the Ice unzipped files... Could not find the Piper J3.

Hi Folks,
Still unable to get the " add a gauge" feature to work.
I manually installed the gauge into the FSX Piper J3.
I get an unpowered gauge that I can undock. I have Active Sky Next running.
Any ideas how to power the gauge?

Thanks,
Jerry

Why are you in the gauge editor? That has nothing to do with adding a gauge!

As for the "Add a gauge" icon being grayed out, you are looking in the wrong place!

You see that icon with the red handle that looks kind of like a can opener? Just to the left is a round icon that looks like a black faced airspeed dial. That is the "Add a gauge" icon...

Jerry, that is still the "Gauge Editor" button. The "Add a Gauge" button is that little black one just to the left.

As for the folder detectionIce, it must be placed either in the sim's ..\Gauges folder, or the aircraft's ..\panel folder. Either place will work.

Bill, is this the' add a gauge button' ? The one with the black arrow?

I'm doing a long flight in the B777 right now. Will try again later.

Jerry

I think it would be a lot easier, just to manually add the gauge, if I know how. There is another gauge, that provides weather radar information gathered from Active Sky Next, I have installed on several aircraft. No need to on the PMDG B777, because it already has it.

Yes, that is where you would click to "Add a Gauge"...

With the panel.cfg loaded for the aircraft you want, open the window of the panel.cfg to the one where you want to add your gauge.

Browse through the list of gauges until you find the one you want. Select it in the upper right window.

Drag and size the yellow box outline for the gauge where you want it to be on the panel, and size it to fit.

Save the panel.cfg file then load the aircraft in the sim to check your work.

Hi Bill,
Well, I got the gauge installed. Did a flight in the Super Cub, in ice conditions. Did not get any ice indications.
But, many thanks for helping out. I'll try some more flights.
Very easy now!!

Hi Bill,
The gauge is working fine. I am flying a Piper Super Cub from Juneau to Anchorage, with a fuel stop in Cordova. Lots of wing ice, and losing airspeed, as I don't have a pitot heater.

http://gyazo.com/c78bac6c21bd95347fbf5ed75015f816

The other gauge is my wx. radar, another good gauge.
Cheers,
Jerry

I'm happy to hear you've got FSPS sort of figured out now. It gets easier and easier the more you use it.
